We stayed at the Ramada Glasgow City for four nights in September. The average rate was £ 60 for a double room per night and I didn’t expect much for that price. After reading the reviews I expected even less – I thought the hotel would be downright awful.
We were pleasantly surprised and thought the hotel was excellent value. The location is perfect for the city centre. The hotel has its own car park and charges £ 5 per day which is a very reasonable price compared to other car parks in the area. Our room wasn’t large (but by no means claustrophobic), there wasn’t much of a view and I agree with earlier reviews that it would have been nice if you had been able to open the window more than a couple of centimeters but apart from that it was perfectly all right. There was nothing wrong with the furniture, the bed was a bit narrow but still ok, the room was clean, it wasn’t in need of renovation, there was a large flatscreen TV, the bathroom was quite spacious and there even was a bath. The buffet style breakfast was very good (very nice croissants and pastry), empty food platters were replenished at once and you could have breakfast until 11 am on Saturday and 12 pm on Sunday. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The one thing we didn’t like about the hotel was that it was quite noisy. On our first night at the hotel the fire alarm went off at about 12.30 am. I suppose that was just bad luck. I thought it very reassuring that the fire brigade arrived after a few minutes, just as we were leaving the building. They checked that there was no fire, turned the fire alarm off and we were back in our room after about half an hour. The next night was peaceful and quiet but on Friday and especially on Saturday night it was noisy with people returning to their rooms in the middle of the night, talking loudly, banging doors and not showing much consideration for the other guests. As the hotel offers special weekend saver rates it’s not surprising that they attract guests who want to party without spending a fortune on accommodation. It was slightly inconvenient but wouldn’t put us off staying there again.
