“Everything was great!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2007

We have just returned after a great long weekend in Glasgow at Belhaven hotel! Two couples in the age of +40 from Sweden and we have nothing to complain about. The only thing was that the taxi had some problems finding it from Prestwick Airport. The rooms were two different ones - one room (no 4) was more like a family room with two double beds and the other one (no 10) was a little bit smaller but everything you needed was there. Breakfast was served in the small cosy pubarea with an open fire and high ceiling - just what you would like to have! The people who worked at Belhaven were all very nice and helpful and gave us the service you asked for and a little bit more... To the City Centre you can either walk (50 minutes) or take the underground from Byres Road (10 minutes walk). Remember to visit Edinburgh (a lovely city) as well when you are in Scottland. Buses are leaving each 15 minutes from Buchanan Station in Glasgow City. But also remember to bring an extra sweater to Edinburgh as the wind can be hard here. We felt very welcome to this little B&B hotel and we can recommend it. We paid £60/night/room incl full Scottish Breakfast. Maybe we see you again Belhaven Hotel: - ) Thank you! Kind regards from two couples in Sweden

We stayed at the Belhaven in the week before christmas for our first trip to Glasgow. We found the hotel on the tripadvisor website and were encouraged by the mainly positve reviews.

We were given a basement room which was fairly dark and dingy which wasnt helped by the dark winter evenings. The door lock and door itself were faulty. The room itself was huge and reasonably well decorated with nice clean bedding. However, the carpet was very suspect and there was a large brown patch in the middle of the room. Some of the fixtures were also poor such as the towel rail hanging loosely from the bathroom wall.

The hotel website boasted of satellite TV in all the rooms. Ours did not have it, but after I asked about it they put freeview in our room the next day!

Breakfast was lovely, a choice of fruits, cereals, juices and a delicious scottish breakfast! Most of the staff were very kind and helpful.

Locationwise I could not fault this hotel at all, its perfectly placed in Glasgow's trendy 'west end' district and very close to the underground which will wizz you into town. Its just a short stroll from the main street in the area where there are shops, bars and restraunts! Be sure to wander down the sidestreets for something a litle different!!

Overall this was a decent hotel at a reasonale price if you dont particularly want luxury! I'm not sure I'd stay there again but the area itself is great!

This hotel is a real find. It’s a great location- off the main road but on a quiet street parallel to it, housed in a gorgeous, tall old building, typical of Glaswegian style. We found the staff great, the young man checking us in also later served us at the bar, he was chatty, friendly and very personable. My room was on the top floor (think 3 or 4 floors in total) so a bit of a trek but with wide staircases not too bad. My double room was more than adequate for the price- I think it was £30 we paid. Spacious, clean carpet and bed clothes, a nice little window looking out, wardrobes and television, with a very small but clean bathroom with all in it you need- even some toiletries. My friend was in a basement room and had no problems with it at all. We went to the downstairs lounge/bar for some drinks before we headed out, the gorgeous fire was lit, music on and it was a really cosy environment.

Sadly we came to go to an event so missed breakfast the next day- but if you want a hotel in a great, central location (15 mins taxi from airport) shops and bars nearby, friendly staff and really good rooms for what you are paying- this is the place for you. If you are here for a longer stay and might spend more time- I would go somewhere a bit more expensive with more luxurious rooms- but as a stopover when you know you just want a comfy clean room and don’t want to blow the budget- this was ideal. Do not understand some of the criticism on here.

Difficult to find, terrible to park near. Rooms OK although cleanliness questionable. Food OK. Good location for getting access to public transportation.

i had a fabulous weekend with my family in The Belhaven Hotel. It was my mothers 70th birthday and she was upgraded to the premier room on check in. The rooms are lovely, clean, crisp and comfortable. I was disapointed my room did not have a digital tv like the others did but hey it was an excuse to sit in the bar! The breakfast was great, good quality sauages and bacon! I was impressed with the staff who at all times were helpful and pointed us in the right direction for some fabulous bars and restaurants in the west end area. A great little hotel and well worth a visit

We arrived at the Belhaven in the evening after staying at lovely guesthouses in both Edinburgh and the Highlands. The location and exterior of the Belhaven are attractive, but we were very disappointed for a number of reasons. Immediately we noticed a very dirty carpet throughout and a poor fish swimming around in a bowl with water that should have been changed weeks ago. We were with another couple and had reserved both a large double and the jacuzzi room. The rooms were nice and large and, if the carpet had been clean, would have been acceptable. The beds, however, were fairly broken down and offered little support for our backs. The bathrooms were clean but our friends' shower curtain was moldy and caused the entire room to smell sour. They asked that it be changed and it was the next morning. It is nearly impossible to take a shower in the jacuzzi room so one should be aware of that if they choose this option. On the plus side, we had drinks in the bar which were good although they insist that the television in there be kept on mute which is very frustrating if you are trying to catch the news. We actually inquired about checking out as we were so disappointed but were told that it would require 48 hour notice. We stayed for 3 nights but would not recommend this hotel to others. We were surprised at the high ranking it receives on this website.

  • Liked — The location and the large rooms
  • Disliked — The tired appearance of the hotel and the uncomfortable beds

Stayed at the Belhaven Hotel in September 2006 and had an up and down experience. When we checked-in we were told we had a basement room and that was all that was available. On the surface this room looked good but after about 30 min noticed how loud it was as you could hear everything above you as well the shower did not work, TV did not work door on the bathroom didn’t close and lock on the front door you needed to spend time to jig it to lock. As well people go right out side where your window is to smoke so we could smell smoke all night. We asked to be moved again and were told they could do it the next day to a room on the top floor so after a night of barley sleeping as the noise was unbearable we were moved. What a difference the rooms on the surface look the same but a different feel from the time you walk-in everything was working, very quiet and extremely comfortable. If we received this room from the on-set the hotel would have received a totally different review.
The staff was just OK some time very helpful and other times could not be bothered. I would recommend this Hotel only if you do not stay in the basement as you will not sleep.
