Stayed at the Belhaven Hotel in September 2006 and had an up and down experience. When we checked-in we were told we had a basement room and that was all that was available. On the surface this room looked good but after about 30 min noticed how loud it was as you could hear everything above you as well the shower did not work, TV did not work door on the bathroom didn’t close and lock on the front door you needed to spend time to jig it to lock. As well people go right out side where your window is to smoke so we could smell smoke all night. We asked to be moved again and were told they could do it the next day to a room on the top floor so after a night of barley sleeping as the noise was unbearable we were moved. What a difference the rooms on the surface look the same but a different feel from the time you walk-in everything was working, very quiet and extremely comfortable. If we received this room from the on-set the hotel would have received a totally different review.
The staff was just OK some time very helpful and other times could not be bothered. I would recommend this Hotel only if you do not stay in the basement as you will not sleep.

I booked a 2 night stay at this hotel via the clearclick online booking system. On arriving at the hotel following a very late evening flight, I was met by the hotel porter who told me that 'all the rooms were taken'. No-one was available to provide me with information or advice, and I was instructed to find alternative accommodation as the aged hotel porter could not manage to do this himself! I ended up checking into a terrible hotel at 1am prior to an important work conferece later that day. The hotel management were unsympathetic and disinterested, and initially offered no compensation for the aggravation caused by their error. Although the hotel itself is in good working order, I was strongly recommend that all hotel bookings are double-checked prior to arrival to avoid further upheavel and enounters with incompetent evening staff.

We spent four nights at the Belhaven in July and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a huge room (14) at the back of the building and it was extremely quiet. The breakfast was excellent. The location is convenient for the Kelvingrove Museum (a pleasant walk through the park), the Botanic Gardens (across the road), the subway (about a 10 min walk) and the shops and restaurants along Byres Road. We would definitely stay at the Belhaven again.

We stayed at the Belhaven in late May for one night as we began our trip to Scotland. Great location, within 3 minutes walk to Byres Road shops and the subway. Our room was huge, overlooking the Great Western Road, and was obviously a 19th century room that had been renovated - funky colors and furnishings, but with original trims. Bathroom was terrific, with giant tub, all new fixtures. Our only complaint was the bed, which we were assured was brand new. It sagged horribly in the middle, to the point that we couldn't sleep, even with major jet lag! Other than that, a great location. Good breakfast in the bar area and like all of Scotland, a brand-new flat screen TV for that all-important World Cup viewing!

I stayed here one night before a job interview and found it clean and pleasant.
It's very handy for the all the West End attractions.
Staff take a pride in their work and provide attentive service.
This hotel does the simple things well - excellent budget accommodation.
