I went to Scotland for official work and company booked the hotel accordingly however I got married and taken my wife along with me as it was a long stay.
Company changed the bookings and booked for me in Quality Hotel Glasgow, as this is adjacent to Central Station (rather my room window opens towards station side).

I had a great time in that hotel along with my wife. I got the huge room with two queen size bed, sofa, big bathroom and other things. I never expected such a huge room for my official visit and honeymoon both.
The hotel is magnificent and we have never experienced such a friendly staff at anywhere else.
The main USP of hotel is its location - city center - heart of the Glasgow.
I have heard that Scottish is very friendly and when I stayed in this hotel I came to know why that opinion is. Howevre scottish accent is bit difficult to understand but still one will love to stay there and experienced the station look and walking in city center.

We were just expecting a few nibbles but breakfast is a lovely continental spread with cheeses fruit pastries etc.
It was so lovely that it was hard to believe to see large vareity of breakfast and wines.

Overall I would say this is probably the best hotel we have ever stayed in on Business or personal trip.

I think previous reviews have said it all really. The Quality Inn is in a great location if you travel to Glasgow by train, as it's literally part of the Glasgow Central station complex. It's got a real sense of grimy grandeur too, it was one of Glasgow's finest hotels in the inter war years. However....

I'm not sure why, though its recent venture into administration may have something to do with it, it literally looks like not a penny has been spent on it for many many years. Non working lifts, dirty carpets, stained roofs and walls, blocked bathroom applicances etc etc. Do not even think of staying here, a £40 Travelodge will feel like a palace in comparison. Yet.. it's such a shame given the location and the history. It deserves so much better.

Well I have returned from the Quality Hotel, Glasgow and I am still alive, have all my toes and my head didnt rotate 360degrees at any stage during my trip. So if you havent booked the hotel for your break yet here is my full and frank update:

Bads
(1) No-one at reception when I arrived and had to bang on the door after about 5 minutes of no service. The lady at the desk said "aye breakfast is from eeehh 7 i think....untill...eh 10...I think". Not a great start
(2) 2 out of 3 lifts not working
(3) The corridors have to be seen to be believed. I havent seen The Shining but I can imagine this is what it was like. Long, wide corridors that span the full length of the train station and the lights are so dim that you cant see to the end of the corridors. Real dingy like. Stains all over carpets-booze and worse Im sure. Now here is the worst part: some of the doors along my floor were boarded up and had no knobs...I always ran past those doors and it freaks me out to think what once went on behind them..
(4) Smell of stale smoke in all areas and rooms
(5) I only had single room and it was tiny even for one person
(6) I never mind old fashioned decor if it is well manitained but my room had wallpaper hanging off and mismatched pieces patching up holes.
(7) My sheets bunched up under me and I noticed stains all over the mattress-no mattress protector
(8) Found a can of Carlsberg under my bed-not even far under. It was visible without even bending down
(9) Very poor atmosphere and no comfortable and warm public area to relax, have some coffee and watch the world go by

Goods:
(1) The building is beautiful and majestic and would have been fantastic in its day-the winding staircases have to used, they make you feel like a 1920s icon!
(2) The brekkie was v nice, basic but it had all you needed
(3) LOCATION*3. Just brilliant: literally walk straight off the train fronm Prestwick and straight into the hotel reception. Walk straight out the main door and you are on the main shopping street!
(4) I paid €25 per night with brekkie included so for that price it offers good value for money
(5) Clean bathrooms
(6) Cheap drink deals: all bottles at £2. While I wasnt on a boozy weekend I defintely would appreciate that deal if I was!
(7) Room was nice and warm yet the window would open fully so you could regulate things yourself. That rarely happens in hotels there days-either too hot or cold!

All in all as gross as it was I would stay here again but on 3 conditions (1) the price was a good deal (2) I was on a boozy weekend and only using the room to sleep for a few hours and a place to store shopping (3) I wasnt at a conference like I was whereby I was on my own and had the whole evening anf night (once Borders closed!) to spend in the room.

  • Liked — Location, cheap room deal, the winding staircases
  • Disliked — The corridors, very creepy atmosphere

This hotel has certainly seen better days, but it has immense character.

i agree with the other comments made. As soon as I entered the room I was hit with the smell of mould, but the bathroom was huge, and bright. We declined to use the bath/shower facilities though!!

The room was ok. one light didnt work and we had a battery missing on the tv remote, which was brought to our room promptly following a quick call to reception.

Yep, wallpaper peeling. But the room had air conditioning and the radiator worked excellently.

The corridors were sad, with no ceiling to hide the myriad of gurgling pipes, and two of the three lifts were out of order, the third having seen better days.

On the plus side, the staff were friendly, and extremely helpful, one could still see the original grand beauty of what was one a fantastic hotel. The rooms were a great size, wit htea and coffee, a brand new kettle and a hairdryer. The towels and bedlinen we had were spotless.

We did not eat there because we had a very ealry start so cant comment on the food. But when we did leave, it was wonderful to pop next door straight into central station, 100 paces away.

For the location £39 for two people for one night was very reasonable, probably for obvious reasons.

On our receipt a sticker was added which informed us that the hotel had gone into administration. i was not surprised, but I would hate to see this once great hotel reduced to a pile of rubble. We dont need another box room modern hotel, we need this grand old girl to have mega bucks thrown at it, and restored to its former glory, which befits its character and location.
