We were a little wary of staying at this hotel based on reviews we read on this website. However, we were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, and our room was very spacious and clean. I also loved the fact that we had coffee and tea making services in our room. We were travelling on a budget, so we skipped the expensive scottish breakfast offered (I think it was like 11 pounds per person!), and walked around the corner to McDonalds (5 pounds for 2 people!). The central location of the hotel made it perfect for exploring Glasgow, and it is even directly connected to Central Station, for when you want to explore another city. My only complaint would be the drunk hotel guests who would either try their keycard in our lock as they struggled to find which door was theirs (one of them had to work!), or who could no longer remain upright as they passed our door, and so crashed into it.

8 of us tayed here 26/11/04 for two nights - changed rooms three times. The beds were hard as wood and very musty smelling. We were evetnually upgraded to a refurbished room. Not much difference to pre-refurbished rooms. Smelt nasty with inch thick dust on top of all door frames, rooms not cleaned properly, baths all had rusty, cracked sealant, I could go on and on. We picked up the bath mat and it left black slimey marks on the bath where it had not been cleaned for ages. The blanket on the bed (yes you get only one) was about 40 years old, very rough and bobbly. The staff were rude and uhelpful, only met one nice receptionist. Managers attitude was if you don't like it then you are free to leave. We tried but could not get in anywhere else. Your money would be better spent on a nice bed and breakfast.

Stayed here in August 2004 as part of a scottish tour and YUK. While the rooms interior was ok the noise level that could be heard from the above floors was really bad. I could hear when people left their rooms in the floor above me and the floorboards all creaked. As for dinner, the meals was luke warm and the staff were indifferent. Breakfast was not much better. If I wasn't on a tour I would have found alternative accommodation.

Beds gone past their sell by date by a long shot. Paper starting to come off the bedroom walls. Unable to move to another room as over booked. We were with a coach party and several passenger did not get a room. Evening meal in-edable, sweet and coffee never arrived. Breakfast a free for all. No soap or milk left for the following day. Lift stuck on departure yesterday. It needs a good management team in charge because it could be a nice place to stay. Requires an awful lot of cleaning behind scenes. I am an elderly person as were the rest of the party seeing the Tattoo. This experience this weekend has put me off completly from ever again travelling and staying with a group - no one wants to know!

We booked this hotel through Expedia and it wasn't cheap, all in all £80 a night after various taxes for bed only, no breakfast. When we arrived we were given room 524. If you go here and get this room refuse it immediately.
We took the 1 remaining working lift to the 5th floor which took forever and then begun the 10 mile camel hike down the corridor to room 524. This corridor was the length of the entire of Glasgow's Central Station so it did take a good 3-4 minutes to walk down it. As we walked down the corridor we kept expecting to see freaky twin girls and a wee boy on a tricycle... spooky as feck. Room 524 was right at the end and smelt as if a senile old man had lived there for years and the windows had never been opened. I actually checked the wardrobe to see if he was still there.
The bathroom was disproportionately large and had a noisy pump that kicked in when you turned the shower or taps on. When you flushed the toilet it went into overdrive. I have to honestly say I have stayed in better student accommodation in Belfast and that is saying something.
We complained and were told there were no rooms available that night so we agreed to stay the one night as long as they moved us for the remaining 3. We got a different room the next day which in comparison to the squalor of 524 was a palace but in reality was no way a 3 Star room and the noise from the streets was unreal and there was no double glazing in this room (390). It didn't stop until 5am most mornings and then kicked off again at 7am.
The rest of our weekend was ok and Glasgow really is a great city to visit.
However, on the last day we tried to avail of the advertised courtesy bus to the airport and were told that the driver didn't work on Mondays. Great service that.
This Hotel does have the potential to be a great hotel but at the moment would have to do a lot of work to get to the level of a Hostel. How they get away with charging the rates they do I don't know. The name is blatant false advertising. Central it is, Quality my ----. Someone from the Scottish Tourist Board needs to review the star rating of this "Hotel".
