I really do not know where the nice comments have come from on this site. This hotel was unfortunately booked by someone else for a three day business trip for myself and a colleague.
The rooms are actually advertised at £150 per night, but we had a bargain of £75. I really would not pay £7.50 to stay here. Breakfast is about another £12, but if you value your life you will eat out!
When you arrive at the hotel they ask for payment up front. I now know why and guess that several guests may have previously left without paying.
As someone else pointed out, out of the 3 lifts only one actually worked. This took quite some time to arrive since it was the only working lift in the building. We met a man from New York who booked on the internet, and was very disappointed with what he had come to.
In its time, it probably was a really nice hotel, but I am guessing that would have been around 100 years ago, because it really does not look as though it has been decorated since.
The carpets are really dirty. The hall ways are really wide, high, long and very creepy. It was just like something out of 'The Shining'. I was waiting for a little kid to come along on his tricycle. Off the corridor are several part opened eeeeery doors, which I assume are leading to cupboards or something. In the day time, some of the staff offices were along the same corridor, and they left their doors open - you could see the state of their rooms. Really dirty, dusty, with cobwebs, and what looked like ant powder on the floor.
The first night the fire alarm went off at 12am, 3am and 4am. We reported it to the staff at the desk and they were not very apologetic and just said it was people smoking in their room. The alarm continued to go off at short bursts through out the day for the whole stay. The second night we managed to sleep through, but the alarm went off again at 1am on the 3rd night. If you are hoping for a restful stay then what ever you do, dont book here!
