Well, where does one start! My sister and I went on an organised coach trip to the Edinburgh Tattoo, staying at the Quality Hotel. I'd already been in touch with the coach company with some concerns, having read previous reports about the hotel on Tripadvisor. Their agent had been in two weeks prior to our visit and been assured that all of our party would be allocated re-furbished rooms, the lifts would be working, the problem with the water would have been solved. So, we arrived to be met by a surly receptionist. We took one look at our room, turned round and walked out! We were eventually allocated a re-furbished family room by the one pleasant receptionist - Lindsey. There was still only one of three lifts working and notices in the bedrooms advised that the water was not safe for drinking!! Next - the evening meals. The restaurant was hot and airless, but fairly clean. Very little choice, sad looking vegetables. The first evening was roast beef. One lady jokingly asked where the roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings were, to be told by the chef that they were still in the freezer! There was apparantly no choice of sweet, until our party put some pressure on and we were eventually offered fresh fruit and cream or icecream. We think the chef had dashed to the adjoining Marks and Spencers Food outlet and bought up all the cartons of fresh fruit!!! The waitresses were not english and one lady with a nut allergy had real trouble ensuring her meals were nut-free. They were very polite though. Our coach driver had, by this time, observed the very shabby state of the hotel, the surly staff, and indifferent food and already spoken to the Manager. Before our visit ended, the coach company had attempted to find alternative accomodation for another party visiting next week, but without avail. The hotel is desperately shabby, the torn and wrinkled stair carpets a health and safety issue. Such a shame, as it would be an elegant hotel if restored to it's former glory. It needs millions spending on it. The only good points - the beds were comfy, the bedding clean and the breakfasts very good. Oh, I forgot, the fire alarm was faulty and kept going off in the night!!!!! What on earth do foreign visitors staying at this hotel think of us!

Dont go there, it was once the place to stay in Glasgow in the 50s and 60s unfortunatly it hasnt been upgraded since then, its not cheap??? the corridors are tired and the rooms are worse black damp on the walls (in July???) no curtains, the lift didnt work but we were then told just push the door shut!!!!, dont go into the hotel`s toilets on the first floor brown water on the floor and the Cubicles hadnt been flushed, and there is a night club playing music until 3am, if it wasnt that we had an early morning train we would have tried somewhere else.
Its a pity the night staff were great and it could be at least half the hotel it should be with a little bit of effort.

Aug 7, 2008 | Trip type: Family

My family and I booked a family room for the four of us for the night(Aug 08) through the Activehotels.com site, and like the previous reviewer, had read grand descriptions of the hotel, boasting all its supposed amenities and room facilities and design.
On arrival, we were met by reception staff who admitted to "not knowing what he was doin",and he tried to charge over 4 times the rate at which was confirmed during online booking.
He asked another member of staff to help, and this was supposedly resolved. He then stated that we would have to leave our debit card details for a £25 security hold but this would not be charged.
After awaiting 10 mins on the elavator, due to the other 2 being broken,we finally arrived to our room, struggling with our luggage.
We were met by an old fashoined, run down bedroom which had torn wallpaper, broken shabby furniture, grotty old bedding which consisted of one blanket each with a cotten sheet, a thick layer of dust on the units and headboards, and not forgetting a disgusting spore riddled bathroom.
The bathroom was full of mould, broken floortiles, dirt ingrained walltiles and a notice stating that "water was unsuitable for drinking".
This we clearly believed when we decided to take a bath, and found that the water was yellow!!!
The window security lock was broken, allowing for full opening of the window, how this passed health and safety issues I do not know!Especially when we had a 9 year old child with us,who quite easily could have reached the window sill, while 4 floors up!
There was no heating, even although when we telephoned down to reception, were advised to use the unit in the room, which was in fact an air conditioning unit which was broken.
We decided to explore the hotel, and found that the supposed grand bars were closed, and that the restuarant only served a limited menu from 6:30 pm until 9pm. Therefore there was nowhere to eat or drink, despite them having a notice on the door stating,"only food and drink purchased in this hotel may be consumed". Were we supposed to starve?
We also found that the "newly refurbished leisure centre and swimming pool" were infact CLOSED FOR REFURBISHMENT"
After a restless, disappointing night,we were glad to be leaving and checking out. Although, our disappointment didn't end there.
On visiting the bank,I found that I had been charged the £25 to my account.I telephoned the hotel to be told that I hadn't. I explained that I had written proof in a bank statement, and this was when she said I would be refunded within the hour.Which 3 hours later I wasn't. So I telephoned the hotel again to be told that I would have to wait 3 days?
3 days for an electronic debit to my account which any other time is instant, and of which I should not have been charged for in the first place! She then said that she would deal with it right away and telephone me back, and yes..she didn't!
It is now a full day later, and I still haven't been refunded my £25,nor have I received my telephone call!
I being Scottish,am disgusted that people from all over the world are visitng the first and nearest hotel ajoining the largest train station in Glasgow, only to be met by this hotel!
Having stayed at various hotels within Glasgow and the surrounding area, and experienced an amazing, high standard, feel that this hotel gives tourists and visitors to our country the completely wrong impression of what is available!

This was the Hotel from Hell for three of us.
A horrible receptionist greeted us after 7.5 hours of flying with an aggressive demand for more money even although our entire accomodation was pre-paid including breakfast. Records were paper-based. Loud alarms were everywhere. Interrnet was limited until we found a wireless source in the railway station
Luggage holding room was overloaded. Unsecured.
Signs on taps said that water was undrinkable but no explanation. We were forced to get bottle water all the time.
Over 8 days and nights the FIRE ALARM went off 27 times and continually woke us up. We received apologies but nobody tried to fix it. Only one of the elevators worked and it needed manual pressure to close the door. Breakfast was acceptable. Dinner plates were unacceptably hot and nobody cared. Hotel beds were worn. Rooms needed more cleaning. Unwelcome bar cold to guests. Dark reception. Some staff tried to be helpful but the receptionist from hell was still there when we left. Message system for guests is confusing. DONT STAY HERE (2008-July)

Stayed for two nights over the weekend Saturday/Sunday. First impressions as you enter are OK, although the check in took ages. However, once you get passed the ground floor everything goes down hill fast! Only one of three lifts worked, the rooms although they had been recently decorated were not exactly clean and the bathrooms were ancient. The decor /carpetsin the halls/stairways left a lot to be desired. A food tray sat outside a door on our floor from the Saturday when we booked in and was still there on the Monday when we checked out! One time we came back up from breakfast eight Polish (most polish anyway) were sitting in the hall to our room having a wee chat!
To finish things the first night we were there the fire alarm when off five times!
Basically it is central and great for being close to most things in the centre of Glasgow, it is cheap but even for what you pay it is too much. Avoid it unless you are really stuck.
