Stayed for two nights over the weekend Saturday/Sunday. First impressions as you enter are OK, although the check in took ages. However, once you get passed the ground floor everything goes down hill fast! Only one of three lifts worked, the rooms although they had been recently decorated were not exactly clean and the bathrooms were ancient. The decor /carpetsin the halls/stairways left a lot to be desired. A food tray sat outside a door on our floor from the Saturday when we booked in and was still there on the Monday when we checked out! One time we came back up from breakfast eight Polish (most polish anyway) were sitting in the hall to our room having a wee chat!
To finish things the first night we were there the fire alarm when off five times!
Basically it is central and great for being close to most things in the centre of Glasgow, it is cheap but even for what you pay it is too much. Avoid it unless you are really stuck.

First the good points.
Location is excellent;
The beds were really good and the rooms large;
Overall the rooms were clean, modern and well presented. They had been recently refurbished. Our room was quiet and we had an excellent night's sleep.
We were allowed to leave our baggage there during the day and on our return on monday when we did not stay in the hotel - a very obliging touch.
The bad:
The corridores where we stayed on the fourth floor bore all the hallmarks of the presumably former hospital status. There were filthy store rooms adjoinging the corridore which left a dreadful impression - eerie really as other reviews have pointed out.
The carpet on the beautiful staircase was shabby and the staircase itself dirty - inexcusable really. There appears to be underfloor heating and our son spent a very uncomfortable night, as his room was too warm and there did not appear to be any method of regulating the temperature. His room, a little distance from ours, was noisy due to a night club on the street outside. There was no hot water due to an accident in the city with the gas works. The hotel took no responsibility for this but did offer a 10% reduction or offered to try to book another hotel, which at this stage was much dearer - we declined. No extra effort was made on the breakfast that was provided - it was basic but not objectionabe.

Overall a decidedly mixed experience - the price was reasonable and the rooms large and good. If you can get over the shabby eerieness you may be luck with a large comfortable room as we were but "Quality" it is not. I guess its a case of "the lady doth protest too much" and, in parts, this is a very shabby lady. Really, only suitable as a place to rest one's head in the centre of Glasgow and little else.

  • Liked — Our room - large an comfortable
  • Disliked — Eeriness and drity corridore and no hot water

We booked this hotel without checking with trip advisor and that was the biggest mistake we made. I always check but it was a late decision. My friend and I decided to go for a shopping weeking end. The Photos on the web site looked great and the location was perfect. However on arrival we nearly fainted it is straight out of a horror movie, dingy and dirty. Torn carpets, worn furniture and a musty smell. We booked in went up to our bed room, we had to walk the three flights with our cases as the lifts were not working.The rooms were just as bad old fashioned and smelly. At that stage we had had enough. We asked for our money back. There was nothing good at all to say about this hotel. Even the price of the room was not cheap.

First, the one and only good point - the location. Now the many bad points - it's dark, dreary and dilapidated. I had a view of a building site. Only one lift worked. The breakfast was revolting - I had paid for bed and breakfast but ended up going to a nearby Subway each day. The parking - you get a reduced rate at an NCP car park. However, on getting my ticket validated at the hotel I was told that I had to get to the car park within 10-15 minutes. This meant that I had to go straight from the hotel to the car park without stopping. If you were infirm the time restriction could prove impossible. The hotel is so dark. All the corridors are dingy and on the one day I ate breakfast the room was so dark I could hardly see what I was eating. Unfortunately, I could still taste it. I felt sorry for the staff. They seemed embarrassed to be working in such a dump and sorry for the guests who were enduring their stay. It's sad that this once beautiful building has been allowed to fall into such a state of disrepair. It needs many tens of millions of pounds spending on it if it is to become even a half decent place to stay. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

We stayed here for 3 nights.
Good points:
Our room and en-suite bathroom were clean, huge and looked like they had recently been refurbished.
The breakfast was good.
The staff on average seemed helpful.
Our room was very quiet.
The hotel is extremely well located.
The price was very reasonable.
Bad points:
The beds (mattresses and bases) were the oldest I had ever seen, really horrible, like something you would see in an old skip(although the bedding was clean).
Only one lift worked, and this only worked sometimes. This didn't bother us too much as we were on the 1st floor.
The fire alarm went off periodically in short bursts (even during the night) over the three nights.
The corridors etc. looked like an old psychiatric hospital (or the hotel from "The Shining").
The phone, remote control and hairdryer didn't work. We informed them about the phone and they did nothing, they replaced the remote control.
Overall, the fact that I was able to get a good nights sleep, have a decent breakfast and was close to the centre of Glasgow, made up for the hotel's shortcomings. I would probably consider staying here again. Although I might look around.....
