Ok, so we knew it wasn't going to be the Ritz. The price wasn't bad (but not fantastic value either) and the location was great.

However, that seems to be the good points covered. When we checked in we were given a smoking room, despite specifically booking non-smoking. When my husband requested a different room he was told by a stroppy check in clerk that there wasn't a non smoking room available (or inded any rooms left at all...). He was rude enough for my husband to ask to see the supervisor, who surprise, surprise managed to find us a non-smoking room on the 5th floor. Out of the four lifts available, three were out of order and the working one sounded on it's last legs.

The room was ok, but a bit shabby, the bed linen was marked and the bed wasn't made properly. The bathroom was in dire need of an update - very stained and scruffy looking and the shower was pathetic. But the main problem was the heat - despite the heating being turned off and the windows being wide open, the room was stifling and unbearable, despite it being cool outside (Scottish summer time!)

Later, we found ourselves locked out of our room, with the staff unable to give us a new key card. At 2am, the night supivisor had to try a huge bunch of keys to see which would fit, only for the lock to brake with us stuck on the outside! We were told they would brake the door down and then find us a new room, but luckily we finally got the door open, and had a terrible and noisy nights sleep! Never again.....

  • Liked — The location was it's only redeeming feature
  • Disliked — Unhelpful staff, shabby rooms, generally grotty hotel!

VERY noisy location. Street outside had loud music playing until well past 2:00am. Very odd decor - huge room, but furniture didn't match. Plenty of room for two double beds, but instead there was a twin size bed and a double. Hotel looks like a hodgepodge of decoration and in various states of repair.

This was obviously once a grand old lady of a hotel - it is a pity it cannot be brought back to its former glory. As it is, right now it is simply a shabby, mid-level hotel.

I stayed here for one night for £36 single room, b&b. Can't be bad! Yes, it is old, huge and draughty, but everything worked in the room, the breakfast was fab, I was close to all amenities including the shops, railway and underground station. I have no complaints. Breakfast is busy, so my advice is get up early. There is a bit of noise outside at night but nothing to keep me awake. I only have praise for this hotel. I loved Glasgow and would happily return to the hotel if I ever go back.

I wish I had read these reviews before staying in this hotel. I have been to the city on quite a few occasions and never stayed in somewhere like this.
It is a disgrace that a building this beautiful has been allowed to be neglected by the Quality hotel chain.
Only one of the three lifts worked, one of which had been broken for at least six months.
The nets in the room were filthy. The window didnt close. The shower was held together with gaffer tape.
The walls and floors in the corridors were filthy. The air conditioning/heating system was exposed in corridors.
The ironing room had quite a few empty wine bottles left in it.
On the morning of checkout I asked what time was check out, to be told in a very unpleasant way if I wasnt out before eleven I would be charged £20!
The breakfast was probably the only redeeming thing about the hotel.
If you can possibly avoid it dont stay here, there is much better for the same type of cost.

By far the worst hotel we've ever been in! In our first room, although the bed linen was clean, the rest of the room was dirty. Net curtains were black and the main curtain was hanging off its rail. A radiator pipe was covered in rust and flaking paint. The second room was cleaner, but the two halves of the bed base did not meet - due to missing castors on each half. The bathroom had a smashed floor tile and the wall tile grouting and bath seal were disgusting.

Most of the food at the breakfast buffet was cold - the scrambled egg was so cold as to be inedible. There were no mushrooms - the supplier had not delivered any for 3 months.

Only 1 lift was working which let us see that the fine marble staircase was stained with (hopefully) spilt tea/coffee the whole
2 days were there.

With a few exceptions, the staff appeared not to care about what they did. The management said they would refund our first night's charge through our agent, but nothing has happened yet. She was not the only one who promised things but did nothing.

In my young days, this was one of the finest hotels in the city - how sad to see it now. The building needs millions spent on it, not to mention the furnishings.
