Don't even think of staying here! i was robbed of absolutely everything from my locked room within one hour of arriving and nobody at the hotel wanted to know. There are no security cameras and this was definitely AN INSIDE JOB.. no apology, nothing. i wrote to the head of this chain of hotels and received no reply.

I have been staying at this hotel twice a month since September due to business. The good points are the location right at the station, the reception staff, the man who looks after the luggage & maintenance and the price I have been paying £38 for the room. The bad points are the general rundown feeling of the place, the clientelle they seem to attract especially when an old firm game is on and the fire alarm system. I have yet to see a fire exit which has not been 'closed'. Having been allocated a different room on all 5 floors each time I can safely say that the higher up the hotel you go the worse your room tends to be. However I have never seen mouse droppings, my bed has always been clean and the room has been acceptable. Once there were drunk people outside my room at 3am, being a single female I was a bit alarmed and phoned down to reception. Immediatly someone was there to send the people to their rooms and warn them about the noise. I have always felt safe in the room but I doubt I will stay here again, maybe once it has all been refurbished which is what it needs but retain all the lovely touches like the acorns carved into the staircase and the windows on the stairs. I would imagine a developer will turn it into flats which will sell for thousands and the total character of this building will be lost which will be sad for Glasgow

Would never go back! Place was terrible!

As soon as we got there, there was a problem with our reservation - no twin booked! They said they’d put up a folding bed for us, how good of them! Décor throughout the hotel is awful and room was cramped and basic, very old and tired looking.

Went out for the evening and came back to hotel in the early hours. Lots of dodgy people hanging about outside the door and the guy at the door wasn’t going to let us in, even though we showed him our keys! Had to argue with reception staff for ages as they didn’t have a record of us being there…bad experience at 3.30am! We said we’d have to call the police as all our stuff was in the room and we had no place else to stay. They still argued with us. We even told them what was in our room etc so they could check but no, still argued. Eventually we got to our room and lay down for the night.

No apologies in the morning from any of the staff, in fact, they almost started fighting with us again.

I have since written to the manager of the hotel expressing my concerns however I am still waiting on a reply.

Please do not stay at this hotel… I certainly won’t be returning and I will not be recommending it to anyone, that’s for sure.

All in all a very bad experience!!!!!!!

recently stayed at this hotel for a girls hen weekend, was expecting a dump after reading reviews but was really supprised. We were in a triple room which was large and spotless. The hotel is in a great location for everything and i certainly would go back. staff were really freindly and went out there way to help us. there was 36 of us staying at this hotel and not one person had a bad word to say. Planning another night soon in glasgow and will certainly be going back!!!!!

I stayed here for one night simply to have a place to put my head down after a night out. I found my room to have been refurbished to a simple but reasonable standard. The room was clean, roomy and quiet. Beds comfortable and linen supplied by a contractor, so crisp and clean. No mattress cover though.

Best bit was the price £48.00 in total including breakfast for three of us. How can you complain about that. The breakfast was reasonable. If you don;t like the fry option there is plenty of breads, jams, yoghurts etc.

The public parts of the hotel are nice and I did not find them tierd. I could see some dust on some old fiddly bits of furniture, which were lovely, but would just need a bit of time with a toothbrush to get in about all the nooks and crannies. That didn't bother me though as in general I found the hotel clean (the parts that I saw anyway).

There is obviously a problem with the water supplies but I just freshened up as I was off early in the morning so it was not a problem for me.

I think if I ran this hotel I would charge for the type of room allocated . It seems that some rooms are refurbished and some not. Mine was refurbished but the price was cheap, so I it was better than I expected. Perhaps if they are charging full wack they should make sure a refurbished room is allocated. No-one expects a hotel like this to be 100% staight away as it is like the forth road bridge. But if you loved it enough and tackled rooms bit by bit I am sure you would get there.

I would urge quality hotels to stick with it. It is a fantastic piece of history and it would be a shame to loose it.

I don;t really want to go on about negatives as I really did have a nice time here but I feel I have to mention our early morning alarm call. Three members of the hotel staff maintanaince team having a heated and very expletive conversation right outside our room door - I was not impressed, I had two children with me. These guys need bringing into line and remided that there are guests sleeping and that the content of there vocab should be curbed when working in ear shot of guests. It makes me embarassed to be scottish.
