The Thistle is located just off the main shopping area, about 5 min walk to the main centre.

The approaching roads were a bit rough, being accessed from the north of the city centre off the motorway. With a number of tenament blocks being within the local area.

Upon arrival the reception is very clean and all the staff were extreamly helpful and well presented.

The quality of the hotel is very good, with the rooms being clean and tidy.

Included in the price of accomidation is free use the gym and swimming pool (open 06.30-21.30hr). A very useful facility if you wish to use it.

Breakfast was a buffet style with a good selection of English, Scottish. Both hot and cold including fruit.

I would recommend the hotel, and will be returning

There are a few good things about this hotel. Firstly, it is in a convenient City Centre location. It has a small pool which is nice for relaxing in (don't expect to do lengths!)- and if you arrive before your room is read they let you use the leisure club. The bathroom was clean and the shower decent. And they give out free copies of the Guardian and Observer.

And that's about it. This is a big, anonymous hotel, and some parts haven't been done up for a while. Our room looked nothing like the publicity pictures. Obviously it wasn't a superior room! It was dark and run-down, and looked straight onto a wall. Underneath us were the kitchen exhaust pipes. The furnishings were mismatched and gloomy. Breakfast was expensive so instead we popped to the cafe round the corner, but I heard people complaining about it (specifically, the service) in the lift.

I booked the Thistle very last minute and was surprised how reasonably priced it was for a 4 star hotel. On arrival the staff were very friendly and as we were early for check in they put our bags into a store room. The room was lovely very big and spacious, with tea,coffee, water,hairdryer and shampoo etc.
The only flaw in our stay was the room temperature it was hot at night but this was our fault as we adjusted the heat wrongly, there is also a fan in every room.
Leisure facilities are free and make sure you use them they are excellent, a nice way to relax after all the shopping. The location of the hotel couldnt be better as it is central to everything!
I am planning my next trip back to the hotel already!

Stayed here over the weekend of T in the Park. Hotel has easy parking nice big reception and easy walking distance to city centre (2 mins). Loved going 100meters up the road to the walkabout for good food and cheap drinks & cocktails & thai restuarant as well. I have just book to stay here again next week. Bathroom was brand new and bed was HUGE and comfortable. Very comfy hotel. Great rooms rates as well.
