Whether or not you consider a hotel value for money will always depend to an extent on the rate you get (we booked non-refundable so got a better room for the price) and your expectations as well as the property itself. The Thistle exceeded our expectations, as we expected something rather darker and smaller - expectations that had little justifiable basis.
The king bed was very large and comfortable The room was comfortable. There was no fridge, which would have been the finishing touch for us.
We ordered up a bucket of ice on three nights. The first two it arrived within ten minutes, and on the third it didn't arrive at all.
The wireless broadband I have to say is a rip off. 15 pounds for two hours, or 30 pounds for 12 hours. Internet access is for a some a differentiator, and I urge the Thistle to re-think policy here.
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The breakfast had a wide selection - although the muesli was of the sugary variety. The property overall is clean and well-kept.
We didn't eat in the hotel other than for breakfast, but on two nights we did eat across the road in Pavarotti's, an Itialian restaurant. This is superb, offering great food at a good price.

Stayed at Thistle Glasgow for 3 nights from Friday 27 October and found it excellent in every way, from the impressive reception to the friendly goodbye when leaving. The receptionists and indeed everyone we encountered were smiling and helpful. The room (we were given e Senior Excecetive Suite, whichtwas enormous and comfortable in the extreme) was clean and quiet. Breakfast was splendid; a combination of best Scottish breakfast and Scandinavian buffet). Even the children found something they liked! All in all, I would not hesitate in recommending Thistle Glasgow to anyone looking for a comfortable and friendly place to stay in Glasgow!

I regularly travel on business to Glasgow and this is the worst hotel I have stayed in in the city. £160 a night for a room only! The room itself was large, but having got past the miserable staff who did not smile or say hello once during my 3 day stay, I found there was 1 coat hanger in the wardrobe, limited TV channels and the heated towel rail did not work.

The breakfast is a stressful experience - wait 5 minutes to be seated at the "Wait Here To Be Seated" sign and then be told to sit wherever I like. No tables which had not yet been cleared yet. The selection of food for breakfast was very disappointing for £12.95 - not everyone wants a huge cooked breakfast. Better fruit and bread options would have gone down nicely.

I won't be staying here again. No internet access in the rooms shows how far this hotel is behing the times. Back to The Radisson for me (if I can get in).

Management response from RichardWood, Operations Manager
(Management representative)

It is apparent that you did not experience our usual high standards of service during your visit. The price paid reflects the level business and demand for rooms during your visit but I can assure you that your experience is not one of which we are proud. Our new breakfast offer is currently being rolled out accross all Thistle Hotels with an emphasis on healthy eating. We have also recently installed, throughout all public areas, meeting rooms and bedrooms, broadband wi-fi access and I am sorry if you were not aware of this during your visit. Access cards are available from reception.

I would welcome the opportunity of restoring your faith in the Thistle Glasgow and invite you to contact me directly should you be returning to the area.

Having booked an executive room in a 4 star hotel for £170 per night I was expecting a bit of luxury.
I fully concur with previous negative reviews regarding the staff friendliness and helpfulness. We were checked in with all the grace and charm of a cardboard cut out, not offered any assitance with luggage nor advised wher to find breakfast the next morning or indeed what time it would be served.
Once in our 'executive room' we commented on the appalling smell of damp and stale cigarette smoke, it was alegedly a non-smoking room, noted the wallpaper peeling from the wall, holes in the ceramic tiles that used to hold up bathroom fitings, the need for grout cleaner and picked up the wall mounted ironing board that fell on us when we opened the unit. The decor was dingy, furniture badly scuffed and stained, in fact the only clean thing appeared to be the sheets, thankfully!
Promised fluffy white robes and slippers were not in evidence, nor were any drinking glasses.
In essence, a very poor example of a 4 star hotel and most certainly not value for money.

Excellent hotel! Stayed with my husband for 3 nights and was very pleased with the service. We stayed in a double room which was clean and spacious, spa/swimming facilities lovely with friendly staff. We had breakfast included in the room price which was served between a reasonable 7am-11am and a fantastic selection. Hotel in centre of Glasgow next to shopping, resteraunts etc... Overall a good stay would definitly recommend
