Our room (429) was large clean and well equipped despite the earlier feedback to the contrary. Only problem was the air conditioning which worked but would not hold temp by auto thermostat. Hotel is well located for the city centre pubs and theatres. The breakfast buffet was generous and we did not suffer the queing problems reffered to by earlier guests. A lot of the staff were clearly of foreign origin and translation of english requests were sometimes very frustratingly laboured
Biggest complaints were to do with the bar which had no dry white wine for the duration of the weekend, quite steep prices, no access to a decent cup of coffee beyond the early evening, and a wine waiter whose grasp of English was very poor. Despite this all the staff did try to be friendly and helpful.
All in all I would have to agree that this is not a four star hotel experience and would not stay here again.
The nearby Bewleys appeared to be modern, contemporary, cheaper and possibly a better bet.

We stayed in the Thistle Hotel, Glasgow for 2 nights this weekend. Yes, the hotel facilities are fairly good and the location is central but our room left a lot to be desired - it was in desperate need of a good clean and a lick of paint. On the 1st night I was bitten really badly by some sort of bed bug or flea. I reported this to reception and had to ask them to arrange for my bedding to be changed (they offered no solution or apology). However, I spent the 2nd night bite free so clean sheets did resolve the problem. Imo this is not a 4* hotel.

The room was tidy but on closer inspection the surfaces had not been dusted and you could have written your name on the dust by the TV . On taking off the throw we found them to be dirty and left a note for the cleaners not to put them back on the beds , the kettle was unusable as the element had been burnt . The bathroom was clean but the tops of the taps were missing and the basin plug was detatched from its fitting . We complained to reception about the throw and kettle and they stated they would be changed but nothing was done , not worthy of its 4 star rating

The Thistle Hotel is a large, inner city hotel in the center of Glasgow. It has a car park, which was very important to us, and is located near restaurants, pubs, and a stop on the city sightseeing bus tour, which was very convenient. We, too, received an upgrade to an executive room, which was very spacious with comfortable beds and a sofa. The only drawback with the room was the closet. There was a musty, mold-like smell, and it looked as if a leak upstairs had affected the wallpaper. This was not a problem, since we were only staying one night, but for a longer stay we would have wanted to make use of the closet. The staff at reception and the concierge were very pleasant and helpful. The food at breakfast was good and plentiful (self-serve), but the staff could use some improvement. Everyone was involved with scurrying around clearing tables, but it was difficult to find someone to supply missing items from the table set-up (sugar, jam) or serve our tea. The gentleman at the next table had similar problems getting his hot chocolate. If I went to Glasgow again, I would stay at the Thistle. However, if I am in Scotland again, I will probably stay somewhere like Dumfries, and catch the train into town for the day. Traffic was awfull, and for someone not familiar with Glasgow, driving to the hotel, and leaving town on the motorway proved to be very difficult. A lot of time was spent sitting in traffic.

Upon checking in to the attractive reception area, we were upgraded free of charge by the very pleasant receptionist to an executive suite. This was extremely spacious and very clean. the facilities were very good, the hotel decor absolutely fine, I fail to see the shabby decor listed in many other reviews. Nothing was too much trouble for the reception staff and we also made use of the lovely pool and jacuzzi.

All in all this added a lot to our stay and I would highly recommend this hotel.
