The Thistle Hotel is a large, inner city hotel in the center of Glasgow. It has a car park, which was very important to us, and is located near restaurants, pubs, and a stop on the city sightseeing bus tour, which was very convenient. We, too, received an upgrade to an executive room, which was very spacious with comfortable beds and a sofa. The only drawback with the room was the closet. There was a musty, mold-like smell, and it looked as if a leak upstairs had affected the wallpaper. This was not a problem, since we were only staying one night, but for a longer stay we would have wanted to make use of the closet. The staff at reception and the concierge were very pleasant and helpful. The food at breakfast was good and plentiful (self-serve), but the staff could use some improvement. Everyone was involved with scurrying around clearing tables, but it was difficult to find someone to supply missing items from the table set-up (sugar, jam) or serve our tea. The gentleman at the next table had similar problems getting his hot chocolate. If I went to Glasgow again, I would stay at the Thistle. However, if I am in Scotland again, I will probably stay somewhere like Dumfries, and catch the train into town for the day. Traffic was awfull, and for someone not familiar with Glasgow, driving to the hotel, and leaving town on the motorway proved to be very difficult. A lot of time was spent sitting in traffic.
