The four star rating seems a far too high. I stayed in a standard double, and the room was large with a huge bed. However, the bathroom was small and the bath and walls rather grotty.

In-room facitities were only fair: rather old tv, wonky remote control, kettle ancient etc.

The breakfast was average, and not very flavoursome.

A plus is the location: it's very close to the city centre and the shopping.

Overall, ok, but some problems.

Myself, husband and friends stayed at this hotel for a birthday celebration in February.

The location is superb for shopping and nightlife, the staff very friendly and accommodating and due to ongoing refurbishments;what were tired areas are now fabulous, i.e. the bar and lobby.

What struck me most was that staff were informative and helpful in view of the work taking place in certain areas of the hotel. Once the refurb is complete this hotel will be amazing.

Breakfast was exceptionally busy and we did have a short wait, though the food was great and the staff worked hard to minimize the wait.

Great location, but this hotel needs a good clean and reinforces the Thistle chain's position as an heir to the TrustHouse Forte brand which were overpriced hotels in need of refurbishment and 10 years behind other similarly priced hotels. The redeeming feature is that the bar stays open til late.

We recently stayed at the Glasgow Thistle hotel.
Booked the courtesy coach on offer from the hotel but it never turned up.
No apology, staff with a couldn't care less attitude.
Breakfast Sunday morning complete chaos. Buffet bar empty for over half an hour and everything self service except the tea/coffee which we are still waiting for!. Queue for self service hot buffet and queue for self service toast all in same corner resulting in total gridlock. Kitchen looked dirty.
Staff walking around like the walking dead with no idea of what was going on. Complete lack of training evident in the staff.
Thought we'd catch the international rugby match on the big screen in the bar but the bar was closed for renovations(for a fortnight) no alternative except room service or the restaurant. First four star I've stayed in with no bar. No residents bar at night just very rude and arrogant night staff.
No sign of any manager throughout the weekend all in all a very disappointing stay. Glasgow however was great.
