Stayed in this hotel many times, staff are always very friendly, polite and nothing is a problem to them. The rooms are always very clean and maids come in every day and fill up coffee and tea. Breakfast is always good and there is always plenty of variety for everyone.
Great location for shopping and nightlife shopping centre just round corner and numerous bars restaurants and clubs a short walk away.

  • Liked — The sapcious rooms and the pool
  • Disliked — Having to queue for breakfast as we usually go down at last minute!!

I recently spent a fortnight in this very centrally located hotel. First impressions were very good. The foyer was light and well designed as befits a 4-star hotel. The accommodation was excellent (I was in a refurbished room) although if you needed to work, a brighter light would have been useful, as would a Tariff list should one wish to book again or recommend to others (there don’t seem to be any set charges, for rooms or telephone calls…). Toiletries are provided but why do they remove the soap after only one usage? Such a waste!

The leisure facility was excellent, great pool, the whole area was warm and well kept.

The restaurant however left a lot to be desired. I was one of a large group who were crammed onto one long table, which would have been so much more comfortable slightly longer still. Evening meals were laid out buffet style but with very limited choice and frequently only warm, rarely hot. Basics such as gravy and sauces had to be requested. Checks for items running out and replenishing when necessary should have been done more frequently. Tables were not always laid correctly with items of cutlery missing and several times the cutlery, crockery and glassware were not clean! Breakfast again had incorrectly laid tables, we often had to wait for tea, coffee and toast (on occasions we had to go without because of time) and found towards the end of our stay the fruit juice was very unpalatable.

A big problem was the fire alarm! Three times in two weeks! It’s not much fun when you have to get up for work the next day. If steam from baths or showers sets the alarm off perhaps they should be looking at better extraction from the bathroom rather than relying on the tiny notice on the wall telling you to close the door.

Overall, athough The Thistle has some very good points, for a 4-star hotel the restaurant in particular leaves much to be desired.

We had one of the newly refurbished executive rooms on the 7th floor, it was fantastic!!! Very fancy... had a massive king bed, plenty of space in the bedroom with a large wardrobe. There was also a sofa bed and a big fancy plasma tv. The bathroom is huge, it has a massive vanity unit with a bath and separate walk in shower, which was also a really good size. There was only 2 of us staying in the room but it would certainly be spacious enough for 4 people.
From the moment we walked in the hotel we received excellent service, the reception staff were friendly, we had a drink in the bar which was reasonably priced for a hotel bar and the barman was again really friendly. We didn’t use the restaurant but had room service in the morning and the full Scottish breakfast was very nice. We also used the swimming pool, sauna &steam room, the leisure centre had a very relaxed atmosphere and you get to use it at no additional cost!! The executive room we had was expensive but definitely worth ever penny as we had a fantastic stay and will certainly be returning soon.

I stayed in Thistle Glasgow for 4 nights and found it be excellent. I honestly couldnt fault it, from check in right through to check out. On check in the girl was very friendly and asked if we had any special requests, she also pointed out the special menu in the restaurant, which we decided to book.
We stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms on the 7th floor, well worth the uograde fee. The room has a huge plasma tv on the wall and also has a walk in shower. The decor is very modern. The hotel has obviously had a major face lift and i would disregard some of the bad reviews on here as i find them to be unfounded. The restaurant was busy but this did not seem to affect the service that we received, the food was lovely and quite reasonable.Breakfast in the morning was also hassle free with a great choice of fruit and cereals or if you wanted to go the whole hog you could have a full scottish breakfast. The gym is small but well equipped, the pool is also larger than i expected.
The hotel also has a huge undergrond car park which is at a fee of £5, bargain for city centre parking!! (however it was free with my upgraded room!)
The location is fantastic for shopping, pubs and clubs. Great transport links, really close to cowcaddens subway station.
I have even booked a xmas party night at this hotel on the strength of this stay, the service i received was second to none and i will definetly stay here again.

Glasgow is practically a Scottish version of Leeds, and coming from West Yorkshire, this is not ideal, but the good thing is, Edinburgh is a short train journey away. The hotel is brilliantly located, we went for 2 nights, a weekend when there was a biig football game on so traffic was heaving on the way in, BUT once into town, it is very easy to get to the hotel and park up underground. Location, it is great, a short walk away from all the shops and both the train stations, and the concierge helped us with everything, even locations and sites in Edinburgh, what he didn't know wasn't worth knowing. Very helpful guy. Food was indifferent, wasn't too impressed with breakfast, above average, but the haggis spring rolls in the bar are to die for. One thing, do not order the pineapple dessert, all you get are 2 wafer thin slices of pineapple with what I can describe as a slight presence of sauce, on the whole, the meal in the restaurant are again above average. Staff were very helpful and friendly and even built up a rapport with the concierge, very likeable guy, saved us a lot of time looking for things, he gave us a map and circled things of interest for us. If Glasgow isn't your cup of tea, do not discount this hotel as the train stations are withing 10 minutes walk and easy access to go see the sights, also if you are wanting Edinburgh, at times I have looked for hotels here and struggled, I would really consider this hotel as an alternative, a bit far out, but for the sake of a 3/4 hr train journey, not end of the world. Room was big, we got a deluxe king, had a distant city view, the air con didn't work, we reported it a few times but wasn't repaired, was annoying, other than that, was a really nice stay and I would consider stopping here again if I do stop in Glasgow again, would be one of the first hotels I would check and compare prices to others.

  • Liked — Friendly staff, the concierge saved us plenty of time looking for things.
  • Disliked — The air con, still wasn't repaired after reporting it a few times.
