I was booked into this hotel by a company to attend a meeting in Glasgow. Hotel quite handy for centre of Glasgow; but nowhere near confrence centre. I attended with my husband and we had a standard double room that had been refurbished. Check in fine and staff helpful and pleasant. Parking under hotel, fine and £5 per night. Room small and bed tiny. Bathroom small and v shabby and poorly equipped e.g. nearly no toiletries and not enough towels for 2 people. V dingy room really. Breakfast dreadful - a mixture of tinned fruit (nothing fresh apart from the odd orange) and poor choice of food. Had to wait for toast to come - small racks of thin barely charred cheap bread. Waited for coffee and tea both mornings. V small gym upstairs aircon broken - so nearly died of heat stroke. Small pool that was ok. Would never come again. real find was nice family run Italian restaurant over road Pavarrottis would recommend.

I stay at the Thistle quite regularly through work and have to say, would be disappointed if on holiday. The rooms are ok - although their pillows are like sleeping on concrete - but lack any charm or character. I often end up walking up the stairs as the lifts have been out of action on 2 out od my last 3 visits. The choice at breakfast is pretty good and the bar is a standard hotel bar - lacking in any real atmostphere but a short walk home!
It's not a bad hotel but it's not great. For a 1 night visit, it's acceptable but I would be very disappointed if I had to stay more than a couple of nights.

“Utter incompetence”

I have stayed at many hotels, and never encountered such utter disorganization and incompetence of the hotel staff. Lost payments & bookings, double billing, and refusal to admit that mistakes were made. There are far better places to stay in Glasgow...avoid the large potential of frustration.

“How bad can a hotel be?”

Wow...how bad can a hotel be? Try this place to find out. Foreign staff who can hardly speak English, the most depressing bar man I have ever met and absolutely terrible food. Please please please do not book here for Christmas dinner. It'll only kill your festive spirit.

“Wonderful stay”

I recently went on a one week tour of Scotland, and the Thistle Hotel on Cambridge St. in Glasgow was the nicest accommodation of all I saw. It is very centrally located, very near Sauchiehall Street (Pedestrian mall with shopping and other attractions such as the Willow Tea Room). The hotel is pleasant and clean. The restaurant had the best breakfast of my trip, a buffet with many choices. I really have pleasant memories of Glasgow and of the Thistle Hotel!
