“Return visitor - not so good this time!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

We have stayed at this hotel many times before and have always found the reception staff to be excellent - welcoming, efficient and helpful.

Our rooms this time (201 & 709) were fine but not as good as our other visits. We very much appreciated our upgrade to a king size bed in one room however if we had booked this type of room and paid the price for it we feel we would have been a little disappointed - the sink was cracked , taps wouldn't turn off properly and overall the bathroom was tired looking. We know that there are much nicer rooms in the hotel! Complimentary water is a nice touch thank you.

We had drinks in the bar which was great as always - we don't feel it is overpriced, as mentioned in a few reviews, about right for city centre hotel.

We didn't have breakfast included with the room, however chose to add it - unfortunately we didn't actually get it! There didn't seem to be enough staff on shift to cope with the demand. The queue to be seated was growing, staff were working hard, but no one seemed to be managing the situation. We tried to order from the menu rather than selecting the full buffet, however everyone was so busy they forgot to put the order in! Despite being very apologetic, we felt the situation wasn't going to get any better (we heard a few complaints and staff looked quite stressed) and decided to go elsewhere. We provided feedback at reception who, again, were apologetic and promised to feedback.

I've given a three star rating - we have stayed before and never had any issues - for which 4 and 5 star would have been appropriate but this visit was disappointing so I've averaged it out. The hotel was very busy due to an awards function being held there, so maybe it was just the demand on staff and rooms this weekend.

We'll probably be back as we have had many excellent stays, and it is such a good location for city centre, but may think twice if we have another disappointing time.

Positives - Gym, pool, spa (reflexology & massage), location (close to shops and restaurants), spacious room.

Negatives - Noisy machines were situated right outside our bedroom window. Female showers at Otium were not very clean. No changing rooms.

We got a warm welcome from the reception staff although the room was not ready until 14:00. They advised us we could leave our luggage in a store free of charge until then. The room was very clean when we got in although the requested single beds were not in evidence. A request at reception rectified this.
Food was left outside an adjacent room for a very long period of time without being cleared away.
The swimming pool was great for a hotel, as was the sauna & steam room.
Beer & wine was way overpriced, £4.50 for a pint of Tennent's Lager and over £5.00 for a small wine, but the service was good nevertheless.

I recently stayed in this hotel. I found the staff to be lovely, very attentive and helpful. They went above and beyond to get my dry-cleaning done on time. The check-in/check out was seamless, little queuing and met with a smile. The rooms are lovely, very spacious, comfiest bed I’ve slept in for ages. The room is very quiet and you get a great nights sleep.
I ate dinner there where I found the food to be tasty and good portions. Again, the staff went out of their way to keep everyone happy and to ensure we had the best experience.
I would definitely recommend it for personal travellers and people on business.

I stayed here for one night with my boyfriend. The room was an ok size and was clean but the bed was a bit smaller than a standard double .
Our window looked out onto the brick wall of a building next to the hotel, this made the room quite dark.
The bathroom was very cramped with a shower over the bath and was in need of an update.
The decor in the bedroom was also in need of updating.
Having said this the room was comfortable. If I was staying here for work it would have been fine but I would not choose it for a brake away.
The staff were very friendly and accomodating.
All in all, fairly average.

This hotel is in a great location and offers very easy access to Sauchiehall Street. The property is clean and smart, the rooms are very modern in style with lots of grey and white. Carpets throughout are clean and unmarked, and the bathrooms were also clean and tidy. My bed was very comfortable and the room had good temperature control. The front desk staff were very helpful, cheerful and willing to help. The Thistle have recently improved there free wifi service, so it give you quicker and easier access to the internet. Overall I really liked the place, thanks for the great service!

Stayed here for a night out in Glasgow, and had an amazing time!

The hotel was really clean, and the rooms were large and really comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was excellent too. Location is brilliant, 5 min walk from Queen Street station, and right next to the shops and clubs.

Only negative was that the spa/gym didn't open until 8am on Saturday morning.

Would highly recommend for anyone visiting Glasgow.
