Just returned from a great weekend in Glasgow with the kids. Booked Thistle as got a great deal with Ferry company and kids wanted a hotel with a swimming pool! Family room was massive and clean. Food was good though limited choice of kids meals - had better selection in other hotels. Location of hotel is great - cinema is only 2 mins walk and shops round the corner for the mrs!! All in all a winner!

I stayed in this Hotel in room no 222 last weekend and was really disappointed. The room was shabby and cold. The windows were in dire need of a good clean and the bathroom wasn't the cleanest either. The air conditioning unit took ages to work and even then it wasn't very good. We had actually had an upgrade, so I was even less impressed that this was supposed to be an Executive Room. My final annoyance was that during the night we were woken up 5 times by people shouting and having loud conversations in the corridor right outside our room door between 2 and 5am. As we were 2 females on our own in the room I didn't want to go out and ask them to be quiet, so i tried to call recpetion to ask them to deal with it, but no-one on either the reception or switchboard answered any of my calls! So we just had to make do with a few hours of interupted sleep!

We usually stay in a travel inn but decided to treat ourselvess to a nice hotel - I wish we hadn't!!!

On the good side the bar staff were excellent and very helpful. I cannot fault them.

As a regular reviewer within Tripadvisor I have for the first time ever given a "terrible" mark for a hotel. The Thistle is a tired hotel situated in the centre of Glasgow. I don't mind ageing buildings, nor less than fantastic amenities, what I cannot stand was the endemic "crap service and don't care attitude from the staff".

I stayed at the hotel as part of a conference trip. I therefore accessed my room at c.5pm on the first day, and left some 24 hours later having access to the room throughout. When I arrived there were trays outside mine and a neighbouring room , where the previous occupants had had room service. When I left the following day at 6pm, the trays were still outside plus the dirty laundry from the previous evening. At dinner there were was a shortage of cutlery, when I asked a waitress she suggested taking some off a dirty plate and washing them in the sink!! I could go on about the littany of problems with the service, but it seemed to permeate throughout the hotel. Don't stay here.

Having booked a room at the Thistle in September we had long awaited our weekend away. We turned up at the reception desk to be kept waiting 20mins to then be told the computer system was down and there were no rooms! We were offered a room at a hotel in Clydebank miles away with a taxi there and back. This totally defeated the purpose of the trip. There seemed to be a two teir system working with a couple who had booked only a week previous getting a room. We were not alone and I was embarrassed to be Scottish while visitors to my country were treated so poorly. We declined the offer and embarked on our unhappy and long journey home . I will not be booking a Thistle Hotel again.

The room was very large, clean, and well-furnished with two comfortable double beds, a coffee table, sofa, corner chair, dressing table, and television. There was en suite bath/shower room, dressing room, and a wardrobe big enough for 25 coats and storage space besides.

Plug sockets were available, which has been a problem in some hotels.

There was an adjustable air conditioning / heating system that we didn't use - the room temperature was always just right.

The bathroom was clean and well-stocked with consumables. Towels were clean each day. The shower was easy to use and worked fine.

The safe was a little small: too small for a laptop.

We had a meal in the hotel bar / restaurant which was excellent, and the service was friendly without being over-attentive.

The hotel was located within easy walking distance of everywhere we wanted to go: the main shopping streets of Glasgow.

This year I have stayed in 7 different hotels in England, Scotland, and Norway. I rate the Thistle Glasgow my favourite.

  • Liked — Huge room, classy decor and furnishings.
  • Disliked — Internet access a little steep: £6/hour or £10/24hour
