A fair basic tourist hotel conveniently close to shops and cafes. However, little charm, character or thoughtful refinement. Bedroom clean and spacious but lighting atrocious - positively morgue-like, and one vital bulb over dressing table fused. Good shower - but no shower cap (very frustrating). Although mid- October, towel rail in bathroom stone cold all the time. False fire alarm necessitating needless evacuation of room on to street the first evening; and following morning four fire bells of excruciating noise made dressing
and washing a nightmare. Apparently this was their day for 'testing'
- but no warning had been issued, and I eventually reached the lobby a nervous wreck.
Once there, the staff were unable to produce any leaflet for the Burrel Art Collection or indeed advise which buses to use or where to catch them. Considering the Burrel Art gallery is one of Glasgow's
major cultural attractions, I found this lack of knowledge curious. Bar is large and functional and with a fair range of bar snacks available. However, there was no choice of any side dishes such as extra salads, olives, rolls, onion rings etc. I was underwhelmed by the whole experience and have certainly stayed in better examples of the Thistle chain.
