“Lovely surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

Booked this hotel last minute for nightout. My man, me and friend booked a triple room. As I've stayed in some horrendous places before I was expecting this to be of same quality well I was nicely surprised the room we got was beautiful. Definitely recently refurbished. The kind I would expect for twice the price.... would definitely go back .

Recently stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. I found the staff extremely nice, helpful and friendly. I actually felt rather sorry for them as the hotel is extremely shabby and badly needs decorating. No good if you have any walking difficulties whatsoever. Breakfast cheap and cheery, with friendly waitress, even if there was no black pudding two mornings running! Having said the bedroom was not bad at all with an extremely comfortable bed. Spare a thought for ladies having to put on their make-up in the dim lighting. One of the bedside lights did not work, and the light above the mirrow in the bathroom did not work. Could be good if some money was spent on it.

Centrally located, this hotel is handy enough for most transport and is certainly a good location for those going shopping, eating, drinking, seeing a movie or going to the theatre. The rooms are of an adequate size and are certainly clean, with perfectly good showers and baths and the usual kettle/tea/coffee. The beds are comfortable and the decor is OK. The dining room is downstairs and a bit of a trek if you're unlucky enough to be on the top floor (no lifts here) and if you are on the road early then you might have to skip the reasonably good breakfast. Staff were certainly helpful and overall it was a perfectly reasonable place to stay for a couple of nights. For a cut-price, centrally located hotel the Mackintosh certainly does what it sets out to do. If you want the Ritz, then pay for the Ritz moaners!

Room Tip: Get a room on the lower floors as there are no lifts available.

The room that I stayed in was on the top floor and lacked the Rennie Mackintosh advertised "touches," except for the chair. No pictures and rather bare. The radiator was by the door so no heat reached the bed and I had some difficulty sorting out the fingertouch television controls,as the light was very dim. Those pesky energy lamps, taking sooooo long to come into a reasonable glow.
Still, it was reasonably priced, as was the breakfast (which hadn't been in my book-on-line deal)
The Guy at the desk was very chirpy, and helpful.
The owners can't do much about the stairs, but they did seem to go on, and on.

Room Tip: Ask for a lower level room, with a bath!

My worst hotel experience ever. Shabby, tired looking and unhelpful staff. Even though I was hungry I didn't even touch the breakfast as it looked as if someone had just dipped the food in cold grease or oil.

There's a reason why they ask you to pay up front - You wouldn't pay otherwise !

I'd rather sleep rough.

You have been warned.

Hotel seems to have got halfway through renovations and stopped? tripped up on shabby carpet on stairs where it changes halfway down! dont worry im not going to sue!!

Room Tip: no lift for higher floors

Well located city centre lodging. Walking distance for , University, Kelvingrove Park & Museum, Hunterian and Botanic Gardens.

Keenly priced budget hotel. No major gripes at this price point.

Only minor negative is the 'mood lighting' in the rooms(or at least in the one I had). Fitted with very low wattage energy saving bulbs; the old kind that take a while to heat up. Bring a head torch.

Would use again without hesitation.
