The Glasgow Malmaison Hotel was once a reference point for THE cool, good quality hotel in town. Recently visited the restaurant with my wife. We were seated at furniture that was old and wobbled and what was dark and cool now looks like dark and gloomy. The food was poor throughout and the chef had replaced basic ingredients though this became apparent only after each occasion we asked. You got the feeling the place was running on poorly paid staff, some of whom hadn't shown up for the night. After each order a member of staff would come to the table and ask if you wanted to return the dish or wine. This may be policy but it feels like either they screwed up or that your order wasn't a wise one. It's a silly policy. Oddly when we returned the duff meals they were replaced by worse! There are better places to stay and dine in Glasgow. If you check out the other malmaison hotels the picture appears the same.

As a part of our tour of Scotland by our amazing touring service 'Scotland Calling', we were booked into the Malmaison, in Glasgow. The staff were very friendly, pleasant, and helpful. Our room was very nice, with a comfortable bed and pillows that were so comfortable that they nearly induced sleep. We spent some quality time down in the restaurant, and had a wonderful time. The wine selections were very good, and the impromptu cheese tray we requested was marvelous. Each of the staff that we spoke with in the restaurant were friendly, courteous, informative, and helpful, and made us feel welcome in their country, and it helped, as this was the first time we have been to Scotland. We had a fire drill the next morning, that turned out to be a false alarm, fortunately; and the staff handled it very capably and professionally.

  • Liked — the people
  • Disliked — the fire alarm; although this happens everywhere and can't be helped

This hotel is central but not so that you are disturbed by busy traffic. The staff are really friendly and helpful, the decor is beautiful throughout the hotel and the bedrooms are a normal hotel room size. I would agree that the hotel is quite noisey, but which hotel doesn't - there are lots of other people under the same roof as you. We would definately stay here again the next time we are in Glasgow.

  • Liked — There was nothing wrong with the accommodation
  • Disliked — The hotel is slightly noisey, but which hotel isn't really?

Up for a conference we were both attending, my wife and I booked the Big Yin Suite. Too little space in the room (too much furniture crammed in to a small space). Old sash windows in the room - almost impossible to open and close. No air con so needed to open as room very hot. However, once open very loud as hotel in city centre and noise from bins being emptied early one morning. Rest of hotel ok and like other in the chain. they need to try harder with their featured suite however.

  • Liked — like other malmaisons
  • Disliked — too hot and too noisy and suite too small

Brought in the new year with friends here, 5 course meal, piper and loads of drink, the package was great expensive but enjoyable all the same.

Sadly they didn’t stock my Champagne of choice (Cristal) but were happy for us to bring our own and charge a nominal corkage charge which save me £100’s 
