I am a recent graduate in Hospitality Management and had previously stayed at the hotel with the class in order to assess it. During that
stay, there were numerous points that we highlighted requiring improvement.

Therefore, I did have certain reservations when my friend and I booked in for a last minute weekend in Glasgow. These reservations were totally unfounded as we had an absolutely wonderful time!

First, the complaints from other Tripadvior reviews about parking are false. The hotel gave us a map to the nearest NCP car park which gives Malmaison customers discounted rates. The car park was only a 5
minute walk from the hotel and from the time we checked in (friday night) to departure (sunday afternoon) the total charge was only £6.00 - a bargain for the city centre!!

The room was spotless and all staff were extrememly friendly. We dined the first night in the restaurant and I can thoroughly recommend the "Home Grown and Local" menu, extremely good value using
wonderful local produce. Unfortunately we did have to wait over forty
five minutes for our starters, however the waitress apologised several times and made sure we were alright. Although the wait was annoying, this was counterbalanced by the attention we recieved from the staff. We also recieved free tea/coffee at the end of the meal to
compensate. Other than that, cannot fault the food at all and the cocktails are to die for!!

The second night we decided to dine out and we asked at reception for
help finding a decent Chinese. The girls not only recommeded a fabulous restaurant, they also booked us in and provided a map showing us where to go. We ended up eating one of the best EVER chineses!

As for the rooms, they are very tastefully decorated but they are very stuffy. Our room overlooked the police station and also it got busy with revellers later on. However, what else can you expect from such a central location at the weekend? My recommendation is if you leave the room for dinner, leave the window open and use the fan when you get back in. We found that by closing the window before going to bed and leaving the fan on kept us cool enough.

Overall, I cannot fault the staff at all, who all really made our stay memorable. If you want classy modern accommodation, good food and a central location, this is the place to be! I shall definately be returning and I would also like to visit other hotels in the group.

I decided to treat my stressed and very overworked fiancee to a relaxing night away. We'd stayed here in November '05, and couldn't fault the place. However, this time the room overlooked the road, where the local drug dealers seem to have found the ideal spot to race thier souped up fiestas. We were also sandwiched between two families with kids...hence lots of door slamming and shouting. My request for a room change fell on deaf ears. First I was told the hotel was full, then I was called back to say that they were still looking for a room.
On check out, the girl at reception announced the cost of my bill in front of my fiancee and everyone sat in reception. Totally unprofessional. We won't be going back...to this Malmaison or any of the others. Cameron House Hotel for us next time! Couple of plus points though. The room was spotless and the breakfast faultless. If you are thinking of staying here, make sure you get a room facing away from the main road and check who's been put in the adjacent rooms! Especially if you're looking for a quiet, relaxing stay.

we live in Edinburgh and decided to treat ourselves to a night in Glasgow - gallery openings, dinner, nice hotel. we got a late deal at the Malmaison and were very pleased with our choice.
The foyer is dark and lush in purples, reds, blacks and gold - a promise of the dark decadence to come.
check-in was fast and the staff very friendly. a real glasgow welcome.
Our room was small and plush. the dominant colour was black with many textures and fabrics giving an overall feeling of luxury.
the bathroom was also small with a good shower over the bath. The Arran toiletries were a nice touch.
The hotel is a bit of a walk from the main drag BUT it is near the wonderful Fratelli Sarti Italian restaurant and only £4 in a taxi to the Glasgow nightlife - a bargain in any big city.
We wished we'd booked two nights!........

  • Liked — its comfort and attention to detail
  • Disliked — tiny elevator - bit claustrophobic

We stayed in Glasgow for 2 nights on business - my fiance chose the malmaison and booked a suite in the old part of the building.

On entering the Hotel, from the lovely sunshine in Glasgow we were met with the most dark and drab colours in the hotel - it took your eyes a couple of minutes to focus properly.

We checked in and were told where to find our suite. We opened the door and were faced with what looked like a hospital ward! The two old style doors were half open - half closed - bed neatly made and seating area available. Still extremely dark .....bathrooms ok - shower quite weak. Carpets to the main area quite dirty and marked too.

Changed for evening and had dinner in the hotel - that's if you could see where you were sitting and what you were eating - never been in a hotel restaurant so dark. The bar man laughed - he takes pot look when giving change as the place is so dark he cannot see the coins !!

The cleaning of the rooms was not very good at all - the doors were full of dirty finger prints on both sides - yuk. At one point I accidentally pointed the hair dryer upwards in the room and this brought huge clumps of dust down from the tops of paintings, mirrors and picture rails - it was like a snow storm - never seen anything like it in my life!! Have they not dusted this room....ever - don't think so. Oh and very very warm indeed - everyone seems to comment on this - but the rooms really are too warm and muggy.

Waitresses who constantly dragged their feet across the dining floor were very annoying and the way they chose to seat you immediately next to someone else when the restaurant was almost empty, was equally as annoying. I witnessed tables and chairs that had crumbs and hairs on from previous diners... not good I'm afraid.

So all in all wouldn't stay there again - not worth the money - not very clean and much too dark - left you feeling quite miserable all in all.

Sorry Malmaison in Glasgow - Take the hotel manager to one of the good hotels in Dubai and see how the hotels do it there.

Thank you to SteffenG for underlining the fact that the Mezzanine rooms in Malmaiso have NO air con. Apart from teh Big Yin suite, they are the most expensive in an already expensive hotel. We also live in Glasgow and decided to check in for our wedding night, and 2nd night before we headed to the States on Honeymoon. We picked the hotel due to location and when we visited it to view it the service was exceptional - and hence sealed the deal. The staff on teh night weere also excellent as we brought 20 guests from our wedding with us to the hotel bar after midnight. The problems laye with the room. Th eroom is a split level with no aircon. So you hjave to open teh windows on teh lower level - therfore that part of eth room is freezing ( and the noise at night is almost unbearable) Even with this tactic, the upper level was stifling. Neither of us could sleep at all, meaning that teh relaxing break between wedding and honeymoon did not happen. We were exhausted when we checked out and slept for two days when we got to the States. Before you book , check that your room has AC. The bar is cool and teh retuaraunt is great, but a hotel of this stature MUST,MUST,MUST have AC !!!
