We have stayed at Malmaisons before and we really like them, but the Glasgow one is starting to go off the boil a bit.
We tried to book online which was advertising a great rate, but kept getting bounced off the site, so rang the hotel directly. They said they didn't have any rooms available. We tried the web again and got through and booked the rooms at the great rate. Not sure why the actual hotel said they didn't have rooms.
Our room was lovely, they always are, and the bed was really comfortable. The showers are great and the lotions etc. are fabulous and a sign always says to take them home.
The most disappointing part was the service in the restaurant, which used to be great. The food is still okay, but not as good as it used to be. The staff don't seem to have much idea anymore and are looking shabby in black tshirts that have been washed a few too many times.
There was a new Italian sommelier who didn't smile, speak or offer any wine advice, and a raft of inexperienced staff, including one who memorably lifted his tshirt to scratch his belly whilst taking our order. Drinks took over 20 minutes to arrive when there were less than 10 people in the restaurant and none in the bar.
We had breakfast there each day, and one morning my bacon roll was huge, but only had one lonely rasher in it. I asked for more and they were provided, but it all seems a little slapdash. Amazing French yoghurt in little coloured terracotta pots though!
Parking is always a problem, but found out that if you load the meter before you go to bed, it takes you through to 10am the next morning, instead of getting up to feed it by 8am.
Mal is still good, but it's not as good as it used to be. Such a shame.
