One Devonshire Gardens is supposed to be one of the poshest hotels in Glasgow, and the women at the desk seem to know it. They were a bit too self-impressed and pompous for my taste. The hotel is also somewhat out of the way for sightseeing. The walk to the nearest underground station is a bit of a hike, as is the walk to the restaurant area on Byres Road. There is no air conditioning, so on a hot day the rooms are very hot. You can open the window, but there is a great deal of traffic noise from the street outside, which is a major road from the city center out to the northwest. For the amount this hotel charges for rooms, it really isn't that great. The area around the University of Glasgow, where the hotel is situated, is nice, though, and I must say the young men who helped us with our luggage were very pleasant.
