This was my second visit to the Hotel Du Vin. I went a few years back when the hotel was called One Devonshire Gardens. It was my girlfriends birthday and we really liked our last stay there.

I booked directly with the hotel as I left it rather late to book and all the usual booking sites were showing no availablility. I booked a Superior room.

On arriving we were informed we were upgraded to a suite and were given the option of staying in one of their top suites at a small additional cost which we took them up on.

The suite was fantastic (The Balmoral). Big living room. A small gym area. The biggest bathroom every with a massive whirlpool bath, sauna and a shower with a thousand Jets. Flat screen TV in every room including the bathroom!.

Suffice to say we hardly left the suite and had a ball. My girlfriend had a massage and manicure on one of the days and really enjoyed it.

Staff were very attentive, friendly and made the experience that bit more special.

Is the hotel perfect? No. Even though the heating was on full blast for the two days we were there, the place never got truly cosy.

Although we got upgraded, its was still an expensive stay and I think for the price, not inluding breakfast in the room rate is a bit stingy.

The Bistro there does fantastic food but obviously on the expensive side. We did room service on the second day which was still great but half the price.

The mini bar wasnt that expensive either so feel free to indulge.

Would I stay again... Roll on next summer.

Blazing fire in the lounge and a tot of whisky with a cheery porter's welcome - very informal but top-notch hospitality. The room very comfortbale (heating poor though), bathroom outstanding (roll-top bath, wet-room, double shower area) and the food and service at dinner very good. Breakfast buffet - especially the excellent fresh fruit salad etc. - a treat but service not great. All in all very good indeed and at £99 room only (special online rate) good 5 star value.

Really nice decor in the communal areas and the room, great room with roll top bath in the bedroom and separate walk-in shower, large room with good facilities, overall great hotel. Room service menu was a little limited and the Irish stew wasn't great for the price. The staff were on the whole really helpful , but one of the guys on reception on the who booked us a taxi didn't look the happiest guy in the world!

Would definitely stay there above anywhere else in Glasgow and it deserves to be the top rated hotel in Glasgow on this site.

Will be going back sooner rather than later!

We regularly stay in 4 and 5 star hotels - but this one is absolutely exceptional. From the very second we arrived, literally just having stepped out of the car we were greeted by a genuinely friendly and helpful doorman 'are you staying with us? can I help you with your bags?' we knew this was going to be a great place to stay. The entire experience was faultless. Sometimes 5 star hotels can have a stuffy atmosphere or snobby staff - not so here, all staff went out of their way to help in every way. The quality of everything was 5 star all the way, tasteful and very high quality decor and furniture throughout.
The rooms were fabulous and had everything you could possibly want including access to CDs, DVD's, free wifi. Probably the comfiest bed I have ever slept in in a hotel. Beautiful bathroom -quality fixtures and fittings and toiletries which you are encouraged to take away with you. Food and drink exceptional and very reasonably priced for this quality of hotel (The eggs benedict at breakfast were the best I have tasted). Just a beautiful hotel in an amazing building all this lead to what is probably the best hotel we have ever stayed in - I can't belive we havnt stayed here before and cant recommend it highly enough and cant wait to go back - tough one to beat.

Spacious, elegant, quiet room, most comfortable bed on the planet, and the decor is fabulous - all at only £99 internet rate for midweek, an unbelievable bargain. As other reviewers have noted, the service is terrific. On the downside, I can't believe that they get away with describing the restaurant as a "bistro" . Most of the menu is made up of the kind of flashy, showy, expensive but unsatisfying cuisine that went out of fashion about 10 years ago - you know, tiny portions of the various components of the dish arranged in little towers on a piece of slate, and a lot of "experimental" cooking (squab pigeon with chocolate etc, pardon me for yawning). If you don't fancy that, then the only alternative is steak or lobster, and when we were there, the lobster was off. Poor show. Pity they don't offer the same range as other HdV restaurants. Luckily Glasgow isn't short of good places to eat, so my advice would be to go and find one of them, and then come back here afterwards for a lovely night's sleep in gorgeous surroundings.
