We regularly stay in 4 and 5 star hotels - but this one is absolutely exceptional. From the very second we arrived, literally just having stepped out of the car we were greeted by a genuinely friendly and helpful doorman 'are you staying with us? can I help you with your bags?' we knew this was going to be a great place to stay. The entire experience was faultless. Sometimes 5 star hotels can have a stuffy atmosphere or snobby staff - not so here, all staff went out of their way to help in every way. The quality of everything was 5 star all the way, tasteful and very high quality decor and furniture throughout.
The rooms were fabulous and had everything you could possibly want including access to CDs, DVD's, free wifi. Probably the comfiest bed I have ever slept in in a hotel. Beautiful bathroom -quality fixtures and fittings and toiletries which you are encouraged to take away with you. Food and drink exceptional and very reasonably priced for this quality of hotel (The eggs benedict at breakfast were the best I have tasted). Just a beautiful hotel in an amazing building all this lead to what is probably the best hotel we have ever stayed in - I can't belive we havnt stayed here before and cant recommend it highly enough and cant wait to go back - tough one to beat.

Spacious, elegant, quiet room, most comfortable bed on the planet, and the decor is fabulous - all at only £99 internet rate for midweek, an unbelievable bargain. As other reviewers have noted, the service is terrific. On the downside, I can't believe that they get away with describing the restaurant as a "bistro" . Most of the menu is made up of the kind of flashy, showy, expensive but unsatisfying cuisine that went out of fashion about 10 years ago - you know, tiny portions of the various components of the dish arranged in little towers on a piece of slate, and a lot of "experimental" cooking (squab pigeon with chocolate etc, pardon me for yawning). If you don't fancy that, then the only alternative is steak or lobster, and when we were there, the lobster was off. Poor show. Pity they don't offer the same range as other HdV restaurants. Luckily Glasgow isn't short of good places to eat, so my advice would be to go and find one of them, and then come back here afterwards for a lovely night's sleep in gorgeous surroundings.

We spent our wedding night at the Hotel Du Vin, a gift from a lovely family member!

We stayed in a classic room which was beautiful with a lovely four poster bed, big deep bath, amazing views and excellent facilities. Nice touches included Van Morrison playing in the room when we arrived, full sized luxury toiletries, candles around the bath.... I could go on... the comfy bed, the big squishy pillows etc etc

There were a few rather odd things however:
We got a call about our room service order, which we never ordered!
We were given the wrong check out information, given another guests envelope.
The room was uncomfortably warm, nothing we did would turn the central heating off - we had to turn the fan off, and open all the windows all night.
Cooked breakfast took 25 minutes to arrive, and we had to wait ten minutes for 2 cup of coffee.

Seems like silly little things when writing them down, however it is these little things that make a special stay!

I cannot stress how nice the rooms are, how refined and beautiful the public areas and what a nice stay you will have - definitely worth a visit for a special occasion!

My husband and spent two days at the Hotel du Vin One Devonshire Gardens in June:

What we liked:
1. The beautiful building and our gorgeous, supremely comfortable room.
2. The fabulous and friendly service. How can you not like a place that serves you a wee dram of whiskey when you arrive?
3. Excellent breakfasts in the lovely restaurant.

We loved it all, but if you're thinking about staying there be aware that:
1. The hotel is a longish cab ride to city center (though only a longish walk to the University and nearby museums).
2. There is no air conditioning.
3. Elevator service is very limited. Be prepared to climb steps to your room.

Also, we stayed at one other Hotel du Vin property on our trip. One Devonshire Gardens was significantly nicer: it almost seemed part of a different chain.

My stay at this hotel was flawless from start to finish. I'd happily stay here again next time I'm in Glasgow. My room was spacious and well-appointed, and the bathroom was huge and recently renovated. The bed was super comfy, and the giant windows were nice considering the weather in Scotland is usually overcast. I loved the stained glass windows in the hotel's hallways, and the dark, cozy feel of the bar/bistro. The staff were attentive but not fussy, and the hotel's location in the West End is a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Overall it's a magnificent property - highly recommended!
