I stayed at Hotel Du Vin recently with work using the excellent internet rate to get an extremely good price for a five star hotel. Although we arrived quite late at about midnight, we had a warm welcome from the concierge and were offered a "wee dram" before being shown to our room. The hotel sits over five house so can feel like a bit of a warren, but it was also like a nice magical mystery tour as we discovered new parts of the hotel throughout our stay. Highlights were a variety of magazines in the room, the lovely toiletries and massive bathroom with underfloor heating, not to mention the cookies which appeared by the bed both nights before going to bed.

Breakfast in the room was a nice continental breakfast with a lovely fresh fruit compote and freshly squeezed apple juice as well as the naughtier treats of a variety of pastries. The second evening when we had been out for dinner with friends we were escorted back to the whisky snug where a member of staff catered to all of our preferences and also took into account the fact we were on a budget! The thing I liked most about the hotel was that even though it obviously catered to much better off people than us, the staff were always extremely friendly and helpful and didnt look down on you the way people in five star hotels sometimes can. My only slight complaint was that the rooms were over-heated, very unusual in rooms those size!

Wer had stayed at One Devonshire before it was taken over by HdV and loved it. Happily it is just as good now. The staff are so friendly and not at all snobbish. You'll feel like you are coming home.
Can't wait to go back. We'll be trying the other HdV's as well.

We stayed for one night in a 'club' room, dining and taking breakfast in the hotel. When booking the accommodation, the hotel itself only had £300+ rooms available, so we made the reservation through laterooms.com, who have a block booking with the hotel. We would recommend others to try this option, particularly as we were able to get a discount in the process.
Parking, which could otherwise have been a problem here, was greatly facilitated by the zealous attention of the doorman, who appeared out of nowhere as we drew up at the hotel and made a space available for us in front of our house. Our room was splendidly appointed but was unremittingly dark, only subdued lighting being available, and it was frustrating not to have the option of normal lighting when unpacking and dressing for dinner.
Dinner itself was disappointing. Presentation and service were to very high standards, but we found the food itself to be largely tasteless, neither preserving nor enhancing the flavour of the ingredients. We dine regularly at high quality restaurants, and have plenty to compare against.
A slightly harsh review, perhaps, given the efficient, relaxed and friendly service received at all times. However, compared to the best we have experienced elsewhere, the points noted just prevent us from rating the experience as 5-star.

We arrived at the Hotel du Vin at approx. 4pm to be greeted with the offer of a free "wee dram" which was a welcome warm up due to the freezing February weather. We managed to get a last minute booking through laterooms at a cost of a measly £99, so I thought we'd get put in a pokey little room...How wrong could I have been, we were in the Tattinger Room which was a standard room at the back of House 5. The room was lovely with a huge bed, BOSE sound system and large flatscreen TV on the top floor which gave it a penthouse feel. We decided not to venture out of the Hotel that night as it was so amazing and managed to get a table in the bistro at 6.30, which was the only time available. The food was great (if a little on the pricey side) but that is what you should expect from an establishment of this standard. 10/10 for the service and hotel in general!!

All the hotel staff were friendly and efficient. We have a dog and they made her welcome too as she stretched out by the fire. The hotel du vin ethos is to help you relax and feel at home which they managed from entering the Hotel. would go back to this and would try the others if we could get in !
