One Devonshire is THE place to stay in Glasgow if you want an Olde Worlde opulent atmosphere. Very high quality furnishings in individually decorated victorian townhouse rooms.
The hotel forms part of a row of 5 tastefully converted townhouses owned, in bygone days, by wealthy Glasgow merchants. One notable former owner being Millionaire shipowner Sir William Burrell who gifted his now world famous collection of over 9000 artworks to the city in the 1940's.
Moving between rooms to the bar or dining room involves walking through a warren of corridors and can sometimes be a little challenging if you are not good at navigating but, it all adds to the experience. You can view the beautiful stained glass windows particular to each individual house as you stumble through the passageways on to each landing.
Service is attentive and courteous without being too in-your- face.
Not cheap by any means but certainly worth the money , if you feel like spoiling yourself. It is popular with the local well-to-do set and it is quite common to meet local and international celebs.
Top class produce served in the restaurant, which is very popular. Book early at weekends to avoid disappointment.
Bar is cosy and peaceful with a wide selection of good wines and malts ( 6 Lagavullins) but very limited selection of beer.
Close to Byres Road, popular for eating, drinking and socialising. City centre action is around 10 - 15 minutes by taxi depending on traffic.
Visited three times now and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Try laterooms.co.uk for most competitive price. we have been lucky enough to stay for as little as £99.00 but don't expect to get the best rooms for that rate and you can expect to add at least £50 to your bill if you have coffee and a drink. Dinner for two is around £100 - £150 depending on your selection of wine. Much, much more if you like good wine.
If you want the same quality a little further out of the city try Cameron House. For a high quality, modern, city centre experience try the Radisson. Both around the same prices.
