“Lovely hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

Great hotel which has been refurbished to a high standard. Everything handy train bus city etc. however service at the restaurant is really slow although staff were trying hard. Was left standing at check in going into restaurant for an unacceptable wait both for evening dinner and breakfast. Staff need further training on how to manage the flow of customers to avoid customers standing about

Room Tip: Executive rooms are brilliant however they are big with high ceilings leaving room to feel cold even...

I stayed in one of the single rooms in this hotel in addition to attending a private event. I didn't hold out high hopes for a hotel attached to a rail station, as my experience in the UK has led me to believe that these type of hotels, while once grand, trade off their proximity versus actually offering a good experience. I was surprised from the moment I stepped through the doors, with very friendly staff, a very fresh and upmarket vibe, for very very reasonable costs that were similar to "budget" hotels in the area. The function we had went off without a hitch, again with very attentive staff and decor. I really couldn't fault the whole experience.

Booked a package through itson....dessert and wine and toiletries in room plus breakfast....executive room. The room was lovely, huge, bed very good. Only one downside was toilet...the wall beside toilet pan was quite dirty...do not want to think about what it was! Champagne bar downstairs worth a visit...we ate outwith hotel at the Corner Grill...breakfast was average...not a huge choice. Staff were very friendly and this was one of the quickest checkins I have ever done! Location is very good.....in main rail station and 5 min walk to Buchanan St and all shops.

Being part of the central station, this hotel is a great place from which to explore the city. We asked for a quiet room, and the room we were given on the fourth floor meant that the noise of traffic and trains was reduced to a very tolerable background blur. It was at the farthest end of the longest corridor I have ever seen, but the walk was worth it.

We were upgraded from the standard double we'd booked, and the room was large, elegantly decorated, and well furnished. The adjoining bathroom was large and well-appointed.

We had a quick cocktail in the champagne bar, which is nice, and the staff were pleasant and attentive.

Breakfast was a self-service buffet with all of the usual hot and cold options on offer. The Tempus restaurant might be more appealing for dinner; at breakfast time the large mural and dark decor makes for a rather gloomy start to the day.

In summary, we enjoyed our one-night stay, and would use this hotel again.

Room Tip: A room on the top floor meant that road and rail noise was almost unnoticeable.

I chose this hotel, for its location close to the Glasgow School of Art and proximity to the train station. In fact it is actually in Central Station, which I have to say there is nothing more welcoming when you alight after a very long train a long journey.

The Art school is within walking distance if you do not have much to carry but the walk there means you can do a little shopping and the choice is great and many shops to suit everyone and some amazing designer shops and great restaurants.

We were greeted by lovely efficient staff who allowed us to check a little earlier than the appointed check in time.
The rooms were large and spacious and well equipped, initially I was concerned as we were overlooking the road but should not have worried as we were unaware of any traffic noise.

We loved the nostalgic feel to the hotel and took the opportunity to sample a couple of Mojitos in the Champagne bar, where we observed the comings and goings of the station.

There is also a concierge service which is very useful as we asked directions and also to book a taxis.

Could not comment on the food as we didn't have breakfast or dinner, but looked at the menus and you would definitely find something that would appeal to everyone.

We found the hotel great value and look forward to staying again.

Attended a function in march 2013 and booked a twin room to stay over - wish I hadn't bothered. The hotel has apparently undergone a multi million pound refurbishment in recent times but the money must have been spent on areas unseen and unused by guests. Basically it resembles a musty old museum after opening hours.
It may have exuded a certain Victorian grandeur in times gone by but just about everything in it is now well past it's sell by date.
The public areas are dull and miserable with lighting kept deliberately very low - probably to hide the myriad of faults and flaws.
The bedroom was a joke - stains on the walls and carpets and the filthiest net curtains (yes net curtains!!!) I've ever seen.
The bed was rock solid and the pillows wouldn't have been out of place in another of glasgows Victorian edifices - Barlinnie prison.
I should have known better than to climb under the sheets but after a few beers I was willing to take the chance - bad move - three bite marks on my back and one on my arm!!
Oh well, at least breakfast would cheer me up - or so I thought. After waiting nearly fifteen minutes to be seated ( restaurant wasn't that busy just a lack of staff to cope with folk arriving for breakfast) I was having second thoughts. The restaurant in which breakfast is served (Taurus?) is the most miserable place it has been my misfortune to sit in. From the overbearing mural on the wall to the cheap plastic furniture and the inevitable filthy net curtains this was not a good experience. Food was mediocre at best.
I think you should be getting the picture........
Spend your hard earned cash elsewhere (any budget travel lodge will provide you with better accommodation than this).

we stayed here over the weekend, from check in to check out everything was lovely, we found the price fair for this type of hotel, we thought it might be a little noisy but as we were on the 4th floor it was fine, the rooms are lovely with huge bathrooms, charm and character everywhere in this hote.

There were two functions that weekend and there was a great buzz around, the champagne bar is a little pricey but for the surroundings its worth it, all the staff are friendly but luke the barman and gordon the concierge stood out. I have stayed in Glasgow many times but will definitely be using the Grand Central for all future visits.
