“Terrible, horrible experience from drunks.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013 via mobile

After an enjoyable show in the Theatre opposite Walkabout, we decided to go for some food. As we sat down, some drunks at the table next to us, who were lying all over the couches, feet up etc, started abusing an elderly woman & her husband who decided to sit at the couch next to them, saying this was their space to lie on! They turned on myself & my daughter as they saw us watching this abuse. The aggressiveness and threats we were given by 3 drunk men was unbelievable! I know this had nothing to do with Walkabout, but the staff stood by & said nothing, even although they could not avoid hearing!
Needless to say we did not eat there & couldn't wait to get out. Walkabout need to have their policy reviewed on continually serving people alcohol who are already intoxicated!
We will NEVER return.

“Not as good as it used to be.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

Walkabout used to be great but has gradually gone downhill through lack of love. I find the food ok if a little uninspired and handy if you're in a rush for the cinema next door. You will stick to any surface you lean on. I would pass by and go elsewhere.

“It might be cheap but I won't be returning”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

We had booked a table for a party of 13 for 7.30-7.45 for a surprise 21st birthday celebration so they knew in advance we were coming in at that time. First thing we are told after walking in the door is we have to order by 7.50 as the kitchen closed at 8.00. Fair enough I guess but could we not have been told this on booking as we probably would have picked somewhere else in the first place rather than being rushed into a decision when two of our party namely the birthday boy had just walked in the door.

So we made our choices and I have to say other than some missing jalapeños our food came out correct. But on ordering our food we were told very rudely that we had to go to the bar and order. Fair enough but what ever happened to a polite smile?

On ordering drinks at the bar, the barmaid was ignorant and rude. Even telling one of my friends to open the can of irn bru she had ordered as the barmaid was concerned for her nails, she then gave her change of a fiver rather than the ten she had given, when questioned she replied "oh yeah I know I noticed that when you walked away" You then come over with the right change and apologise not wait five minutes til your quizzed about it!

Our mains were brought out as some of us put the last of our starters in our mouths - not the way it's normally done eh?

The Cajun chicken that 3 of us had ordered, was not remotely cajun more charcoal, I like chargrilled food don't get me wrong but I at least expect to taste spice not dry, blackened chicken. A fair few in the group also complained about their chips still being hard in the middle and I thought it was easy to cook frozen fries. A cheese burger was also ordered, there was so little cheese on it that the waitress basically had to stick her face right into it to see any trace of the stuff.

We had brought a cake in with us and had asked them to bring it over before we ordered dessert. We had to bring it over ourselves no mean feat of course but why did we have to? We were not offered dessert and the bill was brought over when no one asked for it, so we enquired about dessert and were told the kitchen was entirely closed. Why were we not told this as the majority of us wanted it. So we decided to dish up the cake which we weren't going to do as it had a photo on it which he wanted to show to his family. We had to ask twice for plates and a knife and waited almost fifteen minutes. For 13 plates and a knife?

The toilets were a mess as well with no toilet roll in the ones which were actually clean.

The majority of us work in a hotel ourselves and were appalled at the lack of communication and general rudeness of the staff. What does a smile cost? It's not as if we were drunk and causing a problem, I mean it was a Monday night? We were all still sober. For the first time out we did not leave a tip. We were out the previous week for dinner at a different restaurant and left a 15% tip so we are not stingy and don't easily complain.

We won't be back.

“Staff obviously dislike their job.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

Arrived at Walkabout with a table of 13 for a prebooked surprise 21st at 7.30pm. Whole party had not arrived but were told to order there and then without other party members. When we tried to order drinks we were rudely told that "they do not bring drinks you have to do that yourself at the bar." after approaching the bar woman, we asked about wine and if we could pay by card and she replied, "card machine is over there," and had a face like a wet Monday. Sorry for asking. When a colleague ordered a can of juice she asked her to open the can herself because "she didnt want to break her acrylic nails." and then gave her the change from £5 instead of £10. When she questioned this the barmaid replied, "yes i know" and handed her the money straight away. Mmmmm.

Upon arrival of starters our nachos were missing jalepinos, which then took until we were finished our starter to arrive. When we finished our mains we were automatically handed the bill, not asked for and when the waitress was informed we would be wanting deserts we were absolutely refused deserts saying kitchen was closed... 8.15 pm? When my colleague then brought out a birthday cake to our other colleague, when lighting the candles asked for a knife and some plates for the cake... 20 minutes later cake could still not be cut and had to ask again. eventually arrived our plates and after five minutes of having the knife the waitress approached us asking where it was and took it back. Ok. When paying the bill we asked if she could give us a card machine to pay with to which she replied, "no its attached to the bar." manners costs nothing!

Overall the experience was not worth it in comparison to the many venues in Glasgow. Prices are quite cheap but i have definitely experienced better service in cheaper places! Staff need a better attitude, i could understand stress on a busy night but it was a quiet Monday! Won't be back
