“A Great Find”

Five Pilmour Place

I stayed at Pilmour Place for 2 nights and I wasn’t sure just how it would measure up to the blurb and the pictures on the website.......but I can assure you it does.
If you are a golfer, this is a perfect place to stay as the Old Course is just round the corner.
And even if you're not a golfer, everything is just round the corner anyway.
Roberta, the owner was extremely friendly and welcoming and clearly adored by the other guests staying the same time we were.
The breakfasts are excellent and plentiful and will keep you going all day. You can mix and match from the menu as well so feel free to ask for any combination you want, nothing is too much trouble.
The only reason I did not give this 5 stars was because there were a few niggly things that perhaps could have been slightly better but these are extremely minor issues, which did not really impact that much on my stay - but I do believe there is always room for improvement.
The bedroom we stayed in was a bit cramped even though it had a king size bed. We couldn’t open the wardrobe doors properly and had to squeeze past a small gap between it and the bed to get to other side of the room. Also, there was no space in the room for a chair and we had to sit on the bed at all times which was a bit of a pain. However, I would simply pay for a bigger room next time, it would be worth the extra money.
There was only 1 electrical socket/shaver socket quite near the mirror in the room - not so good if your appliance has an average length lead.
The power shower wasn’t that powerful but perhaps this was because we were on the top floor....but it worked.
Also, the extensive CD library turned out to be a few CD's, some of them freebies from newspapers, so bring your own music. The DVD selection was rather good though but to be honest, you will be out enjoying St Andrews so much you wont have time to watch any.
As I say these are only minor issues and I would go back again in a heartbeat.
We ate at the Pilmour Hotel next door and this does excellent bar meals for around 6 pounds per main course. There is a crepe bar in the hotel on the corner we were recommended but we never had the time to try them so will make a point of this next time round.
This is definitely an above average B&B in St Andrews. Many of the other B&B's on offer are traditional but this one is rather modern and very clean.
The Old Course Hotel may be nice and luxurious but its just a bit further out the town so this place is worth it for the surroundings and more central location. I have recommended this place to friends and family!

Have just returned from our second visit to this delightful guest house. This time we treated ourselves to the best room in the house and it was certainly worth it ! The room was spacious, beautifully decorated with lots of extra touches like the rolled top bath and choices of bath oils. The whole place exudes an atmosphere of friendliness and hospitality. Breakfasts are wonderful with lots of choice of local fresh produce. If you want to stay in the centre of Saint Andrews you couldn't make a better choice.

We stayed at 5 Pilmour Place to plan our wedding and were treated so warmly by the owner Roberta that we ended up booking the suite for our wedding. It was the best B&B experience we have ever had...and the breakfasts are fantastic!

We stayed for two nights at Five Pilmour Place and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were greeted by the owner and she instantly made us feel very welcome and at home. We stayed in the kingsize room at £110 per night inclusive of breakfast. The room was well decorated in contemporary style and the bed was huge. Great television, DVD and radio facilities along with tea/coffee, sweeties and Scottish shortbread. Very clean and well presented.

The breakfast was served from 8-9 am and waas wide ranging from hearty Scottish porridge with heather honey to the full Scottish. Lots of choice and a great chance to meet with other guests as we sat around the one big table in the dining room. Spent some time in the guest's room reading the papers and relaxing. Such a beautiful room with large sofas and chairs to sink into. Just what we needed on a Sunday morning.

The guest house is right in the heart of St Andrews and is in very easy walking distance of the beach, golf course and all shops, restaurants and bars.

I would absolutely recommend this guest house as a place to stay for a relaxing break in St Andrews.
