I stayed at Pilmour Place for 2 nights and I wasn’t sure just how it would measure up to the blurb and the pictures on the website.......but I can assure you it does.
If you are a golfer, this is a perfect place to stay as the Old Course is just round the corner.
And even if you're not a golfer, everything is just round the corner anyway.
Roberta, the owner was extremely friendly and welcoming and clearly adored by the other guests staying the same time we were.
The breakfasts are excellent and plentiful and will keep you going all day. You can mix and match from the menu as well so feel free to ask for any combination you want, nothing is too much trouble.
The only reason I did not give this 5 stars was because there were a few niggly things that perhaps could have been slightly better but these are extremely minor issues, which did not really impact that much on my stay - but I do believe there is always room for improvement.
The bedroom we stayed in was a bit cramped even though it had a king size bed. We couldn’t open the wardrobe doors properly and had to squeeze past a small gap between it and the bed to get to other side of the room. Also, there was no space in the room for a chair and we had to sit on the bed at all times which was a bit of a pain. However, I would simply pay for a bigger room next time, it would be worth the extra money.
There was only 1 electrical socket/shaver socket quite near the mirror in the room - not so good if your appliance has an average length lead.
The power shower wasn’t that powerful but perhaps this was because we were on the top floor....but it worked.
Also, the extensive CD library turned out to be a few CD's, some of them freebies from newspapers, so bring your own music. The DVD selection was rather good though but to be honest, you will be out enjoying St Andrews so much you wont have time to watch any.
As I say these are only minor issues and I would go back again in a heartbeat.
We ate at the Pilmour Hotel next door and this does excellent bar meals for around 6 pounds per main course. There is a crepe bar in the hotel on the corner we were recommended but we never had the time to try them so will make a point of this next time round.
This is definitely an above average B&B in St Andrews. Many of the other B&B's on offer are traditional but this one is rather modern and very clean.
The Old Course Hotel may be nice and luxurious but its just a bit further out the town so this place is worth it for the surroundings and more central location. I have recommended this place to friends and family!
