Dear Mr. Storey,
I thought you should know that my experience at your hotel in Dubai was fantastic even thought we just had dinner at the Exchange Grill and after getting absolutely glowing recommendations from both my customers and friends I thought it would be a great idea to surprise my girlfriend with a stay at Fairmont St. Andrews.
This was a special occasion for her and so when I told her how awesome Fairmont Hotels were from both my personal experince and recommendations, she was very excited so she made the booking.
I am afraid from here on the experince just got worse:
When we made the reservstion my girlfriend's name and she was also a vegetariian and we were assured that there was plenty of vegetarian options.So after we checked in (That was another poor experince which I will address later) we decide to have lunch at Kittocks and there was one vegetarian option on the menu. So thinking this was a luxury resort we were confident the chefs were able to whip up something....so they did: I looked like stir fry noodles you can buy from a corner shop with a few green and red peppers thrown in for colour. You have to understand this is me wanting to treat my girlfriend to lunch and when she eventually broke down in tears I had to get her something to eat and wait for it had to be a bowl of fries....shocking. Maureen the concierge did try her best trying to convince Elizabeth that there were plenty of options and it was the usual salads etc etc.
Getting back to the check in: We did request an early checkin and then being told our room wasn't availbel at 3pm. The receptionist mispelt her name on the reservation and also the email address that was taken to confirm the reservation was incorrect. For the duration of our stay we were address and Mr & Mrs and this was unacepable.
In the room we realised the following morning there were no teaspoons or stirrers for the coffee, the shower was cold and there was was July 2010 copy of a newsletter on the office desk (even though it was now the 6th August) and funny enough there was some doodle notes on the back of the newsletter.
Daniel at housekeeping was quick and effient enough to get this all sorted but from a "First Impression" point of view this I would expect in a budget hotel
Max the executive housekeeper did phone to apologise and did arrange a tray of chocolates to be sent to our and and inviation to enjoy an "Enhanced Breakfast Experience" at the 2 AA Rosette Esparanza restaurant.
That unfortunately did not win us over and after checking out and waiting for the mini bus to take us to town, she starting crying again....I really know how to treat my lady.
