We have just returned from a one night 'pamper' stay for our wedding anniversary. We stayed at the same time last year and liked it but just hadn't found time to go back. The wait was worth it though as our 2nd stay was even better!

Having booked as members of Hotel Connexions we were entitled to a room upgrade (from standard to sea view) but on checking in were asked if we wanted to upgrade to Junior Suite for £40. As it was a special occasion we went for it but then were advised actually none of the Junior Suites had been serviced yet so actually got an Executive suite for same price!

We opened door to find a'room' that was more akin to a reasonably sized flat. Hall, full sitting room - with huge TV, dressing area, working/study area, lovely bathroom and finally the bedroom area - with another huge TV! Two massive full windows overlooked the side of hotel (only quibble was the windows could do with some voiles/blinds as people going to the car parks at side can see in!) Anyway we felt like celebrities!

We booked to eat in the Esperante restaurant as we had eaten their on our first trip and it is more intimate than the rather cavernous main dining area. This is where the hotel came into it's own, the staff were fantastic, right level of attentiveness and so friendly. The food was exceptional - best meal we have had in many a long time.

The next day we asked for a later check out as we had booked a spa treatment mid-morning. This was arranged with no fuss and no charge, all the staff were so nice and nothing was too much trouble. Spa treatment was wonderful - again the staff took time to make the stay enjoyable. We will definitely be back much sooner this time for a longer stay.

This was the thrid stay in this lovely hotel, its probably my most favorite place to go at the moment for a weekend break.

We first went in Nov 05, found it lovely, warm and welcoming, my husband had a golf lesson and I went horse riding near by. This was booked through the wonderfull concerige service, who are very friendly and helpful.

We went again in Nov 06 with another couple, we (the girls) went to the pool and spa and the guys went golfing. Only fault I could find with the spa was that despite the notice above the jacuzzi spa for on children under the age of 14, parents allowed thier children in. Possibly could do with a few more loungers around the pool.
We ate one night in the squire restaurant, which was buffet and OK, you can choose an al a carte menu if you wish. The second evening we took the shuttle bus down to the town ate in the Sea Food Restaurant in St Andrews, this was simply wonderfull and I would reccomend eating here.
We had a short wait for breakfast - it was a sunday morning and quite busy in the hotel, there were no sauages left, the boys waited ages for sausages and when they came, they didnt dissapoint - gigantic - no wonder they took so long to cook.

We went again in Jan 07 for a birthday treat, we stayed in a junior suite, which was nice, but not really worth the extra money as the double rooms are just as nicely furnished, the only plus was the panoramic view we had.
This time we ate in Esparante, a lovely expericence, good service and a very nice menu which lived up to its promise, only one fault - the toilets are miles away! Its not very nice, in this lovely romantic restaurant leaving your loved one for half an hour whilst you hike to the ladies!
Again the second night we went into town with the shuttle service to the Seafood Restaurant, another lovely experience. We had lunch in golf club bar, which was comfy and informal.

The concierge service is second to none, very helpful, the valet service is also a nice touch. The shuttle service also runs down to the golf club if the weather is too vicious to walk.

The one resounding fault I find with the Fairmont St Andrews, and I have found this on all three stays, is that the bar service is very slow in Kittocks Den. They maybe have only two people staffing the busy bar, one on the floor and one bar tending. Other times staff seem too busy chatting away. Its dissapointing to wait and wait for service or cocktail menu's which dont materialise. One evening we walked out without paying the cheque for one round as the service was so slow. But in the overall scheme of things, I still love the place.

If I could go tomorrow for a stay, I would!

My husband and I have just returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel and enjoyed every minute. The moment we arrived at the door the concierge took our car and parked it. Then we were showed to our room within minutes. Two double beds! What choice! We enjoyed the fact that the Courtesy Bus ran into St Andrews town every hour. Actually, on Sunday night we missed the time for our return to the hotel and were waiting for a taxi, when Alec the driver came past, saw us and picked us up. Thanks again, Alec. These guys do a great job and are so friendly. Breakfast times are up to 11 am. Excellent choice and beautifully presented. Dinner on Saturday was most enjoyable and very relaxed. All the staff couldn`t have been more helpful so we will be back before long.

My wife and I stayed here the day after our wedding. We booked it for a day of R&R after the pressures leading up to our wedding.
Upon checking in we were upgraded to a sea/golf course view room which was a nice touch and the as a whole the staff were very helpful.
Our room was a good size, very clean and had great views.
We made use of the wonderful spa, although we felt the pool area was a touch characterless.
We ate a reasonably priced meal in the bar and breakfast in the atrium was great.
Its a lovely hotel but is a little to open for my liking, too many wide open spaces. I've read that there is to be a substantial influx of cash to upgrade the hotel which will hopefully centre on giving it a more homely feel.
One final point, my wife really wanted me to play golf so we headed down to the wonderful clubhouse. The Golf Professional was very friendly and on hearing we were on honeymoon, arranged a pair of shoes for my wife and a buggy free of charge, a really nice touch.

I spent the day in the Spa and I cannot recommend it more highly. Every member of staff I met, from the front door going in, through the reception staff, therapists and the waiter who brought my delicious lunch, were positive and nothing was too much trouble.
As a first time visitor to the Spa and a bit self conscious (on my own) I found everyone made time to make sure I was happy and explained the basics without making me feel it was a trouble to them.
In the Spa the staff members were very sensitive to my (potential) embarrasment, and my dignity was never at risk!!

I will be back!!

PS the view out across the water is reason enough to go! A fabulous part of Fife.
