“Clean and comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2014

We stayed in the family room (1 double, 1 single) on the top floor -- no lift so you will schlep your bags up multiple winding stairs. Neat old hotel with lots of character. Breakfast was very good. The street was a little noisy as partiers were on the street. I thought the price was a bit steep but that seems to be the going rate in St. Andrews. The location was great for walking anywhere in St. Andrews.

Room Tip: Request a room away from the street.

Spent five nights at this small and centrally located hotel.

We were a party of four golfers all in single rooms and found the facilities perfect for our requirements. Nice clean rooms, well appointed and serviced. Great breakfasts, enjoyed by all.

This hotel has a very comfortable lounge at the front which was a perfect meeting place each evening and also for a nightcap after dinner.

Service in all areas was superb with Ellen and Richard outstanding.

I was a bit nervous about staying here because of some of the previous comments, and because I was booked into a single room, but in fact everything was fine and I enjoyed my two nights there very much.

Room Tip: I had a view of the street and some of the lovely old university buildings, which I really appreciat...

Booked for 1 night (23rd April) for a party of 4x males (2x twin rooms) for a golfing trip. Hotel is well presented and very clean. Staff are courteous and very helpful and were extremely accommodating to us when we arrived early and the rooms weren't ready, to provide us with an area to store our luggage. Rooms (12 & 16) were nice and beds very comfortable. The breakfast options were excellent. Would definitely return and recommend.

Room Tip: If you have a lot of luggage, request a ground floor room as the stairs are steep and there is no po...

We stayed in the Albany Hotel Easter week for a couple days of golf at St. Andrews (A tick off fathers bucket list). The family had two suites, one on the first floor and the other directly above. Each suite was spacious, clean and comfortable. The ground floor had a nice garden patio area and the above suite had a lovely balcony. Very good value. Just a perfect stay for a great week!

We booked this hotel as we needed overnight accommodation in St Andrews. As the town is quite small the options are few and many were very expensive. As we were there for a wedding and only needed B&B and a shower, it suited us fine. The location on North Street was perfect as it was almost directly across from St Salvator's Chapel (where the wedding was held) and there is a small bar area (seats about 10) by reception where we managed to get a drink and a sandwich before the service (food available was choice of cheese/ham or smoked salmon/cream cheese sandwiches, no other food available, but this was suitable enough for us).
Our room (number 10) was perfect as it was twin room with ensuite and separate room off ours which had another bed (there was 3 of us travelling). The second bedroom area opened out onto a small decked terrace area with table and chairs for outside seating, so ideal for smokers or those who want an area to sit in the fresh air and sunshine overlooking the small but well tended garden.
Breakfast was fairly good with a small menu of cooked items to choose from, and a selection of cereals, yoghurts and fruit.
Total room cost was £180 (between 3 of us) which I still find quite expensive for what is essentially a small B&B type establishment, but with the golf event on the week we went there was little option of better value and overall we were very happy with what we received.
In summary, I'd recommend this, especially for the room we had. There are other establishments closer to the centre, but St Andrews is so small it is fine. Beware also of some establishments who promote themselves as St Andrews but are, in fact, well outside the town as some of our friends found out to their dissatisfaction.

Took advantage of a weekend break when passing through St Andrews recently, we were across from France and wanted somewhere with traditional Scottish hospitality, the room was perfect, cosy warm and clean, the staff very welcoming and friendly and the breakfast , everything from full Scottish to kippers, we have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone
