“Cannot quit talking about this amazing place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

I must start out by saying I was not impressed with the hotel when we first checked in as our room was on the 1st floor, it seemed a bit warm and the view was less than desireable. When I called about the room not being cool enough they did bring in a portable fan and the engineer mentioned the rooms on the 1st floor are warmer than the ones on the other floors ~ UGH! My husband and I decided that since we were going to be here for 4 nights we needed to change rooms. I went out to the front desk and it did take a few minutes for someone to be able to show me some other rooms and we did decide to move into one of their amazing suites~ FANTASTIC and well worth it for us. It was very large, had an extra 1/2 bath which was wonderful and it had a small balcony and many windows we could open to enjoy the clean, fresh air and the view was wonderful. The Suite did have a/c along with a ceiling fan and plenty of drawers and closet space as well. The bathrooms were spacious with a large, jacuzzi tubs and the showers had multiple shower heads. My only complaint and it is minor is that the lighting was not very good. Breakfast was included with our room and it was wonderful - a delicious buffet or you could order off the menu and we all enjoyed the food as well as the friendly service! This truly is a special place and I highly recommend spluring on a suite.

Room Tip: I would not choose a room on the 1st floor - too warm and not a great view!

This was a special treat for both myself and my husbands birthdays. Been through St Andrews many times but never stayed. Hotel is first class, from check-in to check-out. We had Room 226 overlooking the golf and the sea. Very comfortable, although no mood changing jacuzzi bath (why ? ) Very snoozable beds and we both slept well for the three nights we were there. Breakfast at the Road Hole on the 4th floor is the best we have ever had, and we have travelled extensively, also the most wonderful view. Spa is first class and faultless. Choice is huge and on the breakfast card on your table if you do not want the buffet the choices on the this are included and not extra. We dined in Sands one night which was excellent and service was very quick. Also dined in the Jigger Inn which was nice but very small cramped tables. Food was ok. The Thai restaurant up in town namely the Nahm Jhim is very good, also the Dolls House and the Glass House. Would recommend a visit to the Scottish Deer Centre, the farm shop just 1 minute along the road and also the little Aquarium which has 17 little Meerkats that will steal your heart. OK this hotel is very pricey and being American owned I think the other side of the pond get better deals than us Scots do. But if your looking to treat yourself for a special occasion and splash out you wont go wrong here. We did also have beautiful blue sunny skies, crisp and bright with no wind which does make your stay much more pleasant. Highly recommended.

Terrific staff, very nice hotel and you simply can't beat the location. Breakfast overlooking the Road Hole on the Old Course was an incredible way to start each day. The spa was the perfect place to chill out after a round of golf.

The team accommodated every golf-related request of ours - changing tee-times, dropping us to an from the range and various golf courses. It was a once in a lifetime trip - but one that will have to be repeated!!

Room Tip: Getting a room overlooking the golf course is an absolute must - the view of the course at dawn is

The moment we arrived and checked-in we were offered a welcome drink and then shown to our room (overlooking the 17th). The staff were friendly and professional throughout our stay.
Wonderful spa facilities and nice touches such as canapies (and more drinks) as they'd been advised this was an anniversary stay plus a handwritten card in the room - very thoughtful and nice.
Slight wait for breakfast table to be prepared but gave us a chance to admire the view from the 4th floor through full-height windows.
Great to experince first class service - well done and thank you.

Although this hotel was beautiful and the views of the Old Course were wonderful, this hotel did not live up to its 5 star rating. The front desk personnel were pretty "chilly". They answered questions and gave directions, but we never felt they wanted to do these things. Our room was spacious but our bed was terrible. It had such a big indentation in the center, I kept rolling into my husband. And the staff should give directions on how to use the shower! There were so many dials and levers that we soaked the bathroom floor twice. And the tub wall was so high it was difficult getting in. Breakfast was very wonderful and the staff in The Road Hole were extremely friendly and helpful and Afternoon Tea in the Conservatory was a delight. But all in all, our stay was a disappointment.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at the Old Course Hotel.

I am sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations. I am concerned that you found our front desk staff to be chilly, we receive many compliments of their outstanding service and I will endeavor to ensure that this experience is enjoyed by each guest.

With regards to your bed, I am very sorry that you did not find this to be comfortable. We have an ongoing bed replacement program in place and I hope that upon your next visit you will find the bed and mattress to your satisfaction.

I am delighted that you found both The Road hole Restaurant and the Afternoon tea to be of an extremely high standard.

I do hope that you will visit The Old Course Hotel again and allow us to extend our customary excellent hospitality.

Kind regards,

Daniel Pereira.

Stayed here last weekend for a 2 night golfing break, playing both the Old Course and the Duke's. We booked up way back in February and spent all year looking forward to our weekend away, and I've got to say, we were not in the slightest bit disapointed. These folk know exactly what they are doing, and how to treat their guests. The quality of the service is first class, and talking to the staff, you soon become aware of how happy they are working for their company.

Even if you are not a golfer, I defy anyone not to be impressed with the view from the 4th floor restaurant. If you are a golfer, you may think you have died and gone to heaven.

We didn't use the spa, but seen plenty of happy faces coming out from it.

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

Room Tip: A balcony overlooking the golf courses would be a bonus.

When we checked in we were give a complimentary glass of champagne, always a welcome start to a break. We lunched at the road hole bar overlooking the wonderful view of golf course and sea. After relaxing at the pool and thermal room of the spa we returned to our room and were given two glasses of champagne and canapes as a birthday treat. what a lovely gesture, It even came with a birthday card. (When my husband booked the hotel they asked if it was a celebration, hence the birthday treats.)Dined in the restaurant and the food and setting was lovely. Only slight criticism was we were sat so close to the pianist ( I mean back to back) it was very distracting and made conversation difficult however the wonderful staff found us another table. The staff were so attentive and helpful. After dinner I was given another birthday treat of some complimentary sweets. We did try to get a seat in the road hole bar afterwards but it was too busy ( and a tad cold). Our room was spacious and very comfortable. The breakfast next day was one of the best I have ever had and we opted to have it downstairs in the sands grill as it was quieter and once again the service and staff were so kind. Can't wait to go back sometime.
