“Very Disappointed - Not a 5 star in our eyes”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2012

We stayed over whilst attending a friends birthday party being held here. On the way to the room the carpets were clearly needing a vaccum and there was even wall paper hanging off of one of the walls in the corridor. Not becoming of a 5 star hotel!!! The staff were very friendly and the concierge was brilliant.
The dinner for the party was very disappointing. We had about 120 in total attending and the service was awful. Only 1 person on the bar who seemed stressed out although smiled and was very apologetic that it took 20 minutes to be served, the waiting staff forgot our tables bread rolls during the meal, when looking for a bottle of rose wine we found there was only 1 on the wine list!!! We were never offered petit fours or even out coffee after the meal so we had to physically find a member of staff to get it.
The room however was absolutley fine as was breakfast but after the terrible service the night before we just couldn't wait to get home.

Very disappointed with it all considering the high regard and reputation this hotel holds. It's location is very clearly it's strongest point.

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at the Old Course Hotel.

Firstly, I would like to offer you our sincere apologies for any shortfall in the decor and cleanliness within the public areas of the Resort. We are currently undergoing a refurbishment program of our public areas which is due for completion next week. Unfortunately these works coincided with your stay and I fear that they had an impact on our usually high standards.

We take great pride in meeting and indeed exceeding our guests’ expectations so I was disappointed to read your comments regarding your recent meal at a birthday celebration event. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this with you further, and would appreciate it if you would email me your contact details so that I may contact you.

In the meantime, please be assured that I have shared your comments with our team as part of our ongoing training and development program. Finally I would like to thank you for your positive comments regarding your stay, and I look forward to speaking to you in the near future.

With kind regards,

Daniel Pereira

I was fortunately booked for a conference at this five star hotel and was not dissappointed. I brought my husband along and we tacked on a few more nights and am so glad we did. The staff were cheerful and friendly and couldn't seem to do enough for you. The 2 rooms we had were just perfect, The Eden Room and then the Old Course Suite. We were given an upgrade because of renovations they are doing within the hotel. The spa with swimming pool, jacuzzis, steamroom and sauna was wonderful and we used each and every amenity. We loved the fact we were just a short walk from the beach and the town as we are not golfers. I discovered while checking out that I misplaced a bracelet and asked reception if they could see if it was left behind in either of the rooms. They checked with housekeeping and then took note of my contact details in case it shows up. I definitely felt they cared and were not just going through the motions. The only one small negative is we felt the quality of the food in the restaurants let them down a bit and that's why we walked into town to eat. However, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would highly recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the golf course are lovely!

Simply.. Best wedding location in the world. Attention to detail and attentiveness of staff was second to none, helped make our stay even more special. Our wedding coordinator Phyllis Wilkie was brilliant, the day ran like clockwork and was everything we had always dreamt it would be.

Thank you for making our wedding day truly amazing!

My wife and i stayed here as guests of our good friends Colin & Kirsty in February 2012.

When we arrived we were offered a glass of Champagne while our rooms were being prepared, this set the tone for the standard of service and level of hospitality throughout our stay... superb in every way.

The rooms were of a very high standard, the food was top quality and the spa and leisure facilities were out of this world, my favourite being the hot tub.

A stay here is very memorable and this hotel sets the standard that all other hotels should aspire to.

My Girlfriend and I were surprised and delighted to be given a surprise treat from our hubbies at this hotel.

We love St Andrews and of course this hotel.

We checked in and were given a room overlooking the West Sands Beach and The Links Golf Course.

The building has magnificient scenic views overlooking the Old Couurse and sea which ours had. The room was beautiful..

This hotel has a large swimming pool, the Kohlers Waters Spa, giving luxury spa treatments, a relaxation centre and hot tub.

The room was large and comfortable kingsize bed and super bathroom with designer toilietries and fluffy bath robes and slippers.

There is also a flat screen TV, hairdryer, mini bar and tea and coffee making facilities.

We had a magnificient view from our room overlooking the old course and the sea.

We quickly unpacked and went for a snack lunch as did not want to be too full.

Our first treatment was a facial and I must admit it was so relaxing.

We then decided on afternoon tea in the conservatory which consisted of a selection of finger sandwiches, pastries and cakes, home made
plain and fruit scones with jam and clotted cream and lemon pancakes and various teas to choose from.

There was also a resident harpist playing when we were there.

We then went for a massage and I must admit as my friend that we were just about asleep when having this but was so relaxing as well.

Then a quick change for dinner in The Road Hole Restaurant with a pre dinner cocktail first.

The menu was extensive but I opted for cauliflower soup, Lemon Sole and spring potatoes.
Then the dessert - I could not make up my mind but opted for the creme brullee.

My friend started with Duck liver terrine, Loch Duart Salmon with beetroot and Horse Radish Sauce and finished with orange tart with liquorice ice cream.

All washed down with a lovely bottle of Pinot Grigio.

We were then served coffee with petit fours and liquers.

We had a superb nights sleep and had full English breakfast on the balcony overloking the Old Course.

We were then booked in for a pedicure and were served a large silver pot of excellent coffee and home made shortbread when having this done.

Bliss for a couple of days and back to 'auld claes and porridge.'!

We actually bought a fluffy dressing gown each and also toilitries in a special lovely soft white toilet case from the spa to take home.

I would recommend this to any woman who wishes to 'get away from it all!!!!!

Stayed here a few times, both as part of a couple and with friends. Each time is lovely, food is good, service is very good. I have stayed in various room types and all have been lovely. This last time was a girls weekend away where we took advantage of the Spa facilities with treatments, these are hard to beat, excellent. When ordering room service the food seems to excel and i prefer this to each of the restaurants and Jiggers Inn (personal choice).

Having a drink at the bar on the 7th floor is just an amazing experience. From up there you have wonderful views of th e19th hole of the Old Course and the beautiful St andrews beach.
the service at the hotel is impeccable: Discretion mixed with profesionalism.
