Having read in The Courier 05.05.2005 that the Inn at Lathones has received highly commended certificate at the Scottish Chef Awards, we decided to give it a try. It turned out to be a major disappointment!
The menu was overpriced for what you get, the service and the food was poor and the vine, Cloudy Bay 1999, highly recommended on the vine list, had passed its best.
My main course - smoked chicken and grilled guinea fowl salad turned out to be some cold slices of meat on a pile of green leaves with a leg bone stuck on top. In addition, I found in my dish a cut off stalk from a fig and a dry end bit of an asparagus (asparagus was not even part of the salad) which, clearly, should have gone into the waste bin instead. It is outrageous that they dear to charge almost £19 for this sort of "main course".
After we had been served the coffee, we were left alone, there was nobody to present the bill - the lady who was paying had to go looking for somebody to take her money, and there was nobody to see us off either, but at that point it did not come as a surprise anymore.
I am not a complainer type, but I would have complained today, if not for the fact that I was a guest of the lady who was treating us for a meal out. One thing for sure, I will not be recommending the place to anyone, in fact, I will be alerting people about the lack of service and value for money.
