My husband and myself stayed at the Inn for the third time and it was wonderful. It was our wedding anniversary and my birthday and the staff very kindly upgraded us to one of the new suites. They also gave us a complimentary bottle of wine and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was excellent and the staff so kind and helpful. I would not hesitate to recommend this little gem of a hotel to anyone and will most certainly be back sometime soon.

We travelled to fife, to go clay pigeon shooting and had arranged to stay one night at the inn. This place was remarkable. The staff were the friendliest people, each one very happy to help out. The Room was faboulous, very modern and very clean. Very spacious, and the facilities were excellent, a great tv, also a CD PLAYER, that was a big suprise but as we love music it was brilliant. there was a kettle and teabags to hand, so magic. The Bathroom was beautifully mordern, with a very spacious shower, well decorated and there were lots of towels to hand. Very nice food, and a great location for music. we went on the 13th Feburary and Met Dick gaughan, he was fab and the staff were very accomidating to him. Another plus side was that the room was also a room that could accomodate our beautiful dog BB. the staff were very understanding... By far the best Fish and chips i have ever tasted and the dining room felt homely. They have Keith Richards guitar on the wall and also a guitar from Led Zeplin, this was great. very musically oriantated. The rooms are well heated and telephone also available at reception. will be back.

We stayed at this Inn as part of a wedding party. Overall, this is a good hotel. Don't be put off by the outside, inside the hotel has a lovely bar area and restaurant and a great function room. The food is a of a very high quality and beautifully presented with an excellent choice at breakfast. The staff are all friendly and obliging. Our room was a reasonable size with a very comfortable large double bed and a large bathroom. Also, our room was clearly laid out for disabled guests with a large walk-in shower, handrails etc, not required by us but useful for other visitors to know. This was one of the best weddings that we have ever been to and for that reason feel it is unfair to be too critical. However, there are some small issues. The front of the hotel is directly on the main road to St Andrews and therefore there is some disturbance from traffic. There was also noise from guests above our room. The bathroom required some ventilation. The food is of an exceptional high quality but as there were no salads on the menu, something I was surpised about, I requested if the kitchen could prepare a salad. After some too-ing and fro-ing they said that they could give me a duck salad. When the salad arrived it was a starter from the menu with a bit of lettuce and some tomatoes. It was very good but not what I was expecting! I find it hard to believe that such a request could be so difficult.

We booked Inn at Lathones somewhat blindly as a last minute New Year get away with our 14 month old son. After booking I decided to check Trip Advisor and as noted by the last reviewer we started to get worried due to previous negative postings about noise. I phoned the hotel to note my concerns that as it was going to be New Year and having a toddler around might not be appropriate due to the noise of the festivities. The hotel were accommodating and said it shouldn't be an issue and put us into the furthest away room from the hall where the celebrations were held just in case it was loud, as it turned out we never had any problems with that during our stay.

A major plus point for us in going to Inn at Lathones was that they are able to provide an intercom system to listen into our room to make sure our son didn't waken, this means we could go and enjoy a drink in the lounge and have dinner while having the piece of mind that our son slept soundly.

Food at the hotel was very good, especially the meal on New Years eve which was excellent. Once again the hotel and staff were very accommodating on New Years eve as we missed the start of dinner while trying to get our son to sleep. Also as noted in previous reviews the wine list is very extensive however we did manage to get a good bottle which we felt was reasonable priced. My only negative comment on drinks is that I thought the ales were a bit over priced in comparison to the standard draft beers which were at typical hotel price.

All in all we had a good stay at Lathones, it was relaxing and we got to see a part of Scotland we had never seen before. I would defiantly recommend the Inn to others in particular for the food, the general ambience of the place and the helpfulness of the staff.

Big Birthday Weekend

I booked a weekend at Lathones as a surprise for my husband's 60th birthday. I was drawn to the hotel as it appeared to be unstuffy, comfortable and a little out of the ordinary. This impression turned out to be accurate. I loved the mix of styles, the olde worlde bar area was in complete contrast to the very modern bedroom/ living room in the suite. We were so comfortable there we almost forgot we were in a hotel.

The musical memorabilia was a treat for us as much of it came from our era. I had pre-booked tickets for a concert in the stables on our last night. Beth Neilsen Chapman playing to me and 49 other people, what a fabulous experience!!

We had a bar meal on the first night and dinner in the restaurant the next two nights. All of the meals we had, including breakfasts, were excellent.

I had mentioned when booking that it was my husband's birthday. I don't think any member of staff failed to wish him a happy birthday, he was overwhelmed by the attentiveness of every single person we came into contact with. It was a weekend we will remember always.

In the past year I have stayed in many hotels including Gleneagles, Cameron House Hotel and the Waldorf Astoria New York. I mention this only to point out that I speak from experience when I say that it is always possible to find fault, nothing and no-one is perfect. The time and the place to voice concerns is during your stay to the hotel management when they are in a position to address the problem.

I have never in the past written a review but I was almost put off staying at the Inn at Lathones because of the negative reviews posted here, I am very glad I did not cancel. Both my husband and I had a wonderful time there and would certainly go back.
