I expected great things from some of the 5* reviews on this site, but can only presume they were written by those fortunate enough to be staying in an upgraded room (which I was not offered at the time of booking or on arrival at the hotel).
The standard rooms are very - well, standard. No view, shower over the small bath, hairs from previous occupants around the room, no tea/ coffee facilities (even though friends staying in other rooms in the hotel had such facilities), no mini bar, cheap electronic goods (lamp and alarm clock) and that very irritating bed set up of sheets and blankets rather than a duvet. Just stocking Molton & Brown bath products does not give an excuse to charge £135 a night for a room.
On the plus side, the food in the Bistro is good and the grounds in which the hotel is set are fantastic. But my conclusion overall is that the hotel should have a wider variation of prices for their rooms as there is such inconsistency in standard.
