“Not so "Holiday" Inn”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

Positive's - Clean

Negative's -

Uncomfortable beds and sofa
WIFI doesn't work which i could of done with and you can't connect Ethernet to IPAD
TV is a bit dated but its not the end of the world
Noisy in the rooms, so you can hear surrounding people
Cleaners woke me up hoovering at 6:35am. I know the exact time as i checked my phone clock.
Location is in the middle of nowhere but it's ok if you want to drive

To be honest i would only stay again if it was £40 a night and i am on a lads night out so basically need a bed.

Sorry its very very very basic and the negative's far out-way the positives.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else - £20 extra for the dakota

Dear Mr Gormley,

Thank you for taking the time to comment on the Holiday Inn Express – Dunfermline.

I was disappointed to read your review about your recent stay at the Hotel.

From opening at the beginning of 2006 we have had a constant running quality programme for all our bedrooms and they all meet IHG brand standard and more for the Express brand,
We are looking to upgrade the TV’s during 2013.

I have checked for the time that you stayed and I don’t see any reported faults about the wireless internet. I have contacted our service provider to see if there was an issue with connectivity during this time.

Your comment about the housekeepers hoovering at 06:35am I have personally spoken to the Head Housekeeper to find out how this could have happened.

Dunfermline is a central hub for a wide range of places in Scotland including with a bus stop outside the hotel where you can visit places such as Perth, Inverness, Dundee, Glasgow and St Andrews. The train station is located at a 10 minute walk away and Dunfermline town centre is 5 minutes on the bus. We are not located in the Centre of Dunfermline, but on the outskirts for ease of access from the M90 motorway to which we are a ¼ mile from.

Again thank you for your time to comment on the hotel we always appreciate hearing constructive feedback that allows us to improve our services.

Regards,

The Location is very poor. Far from town center, nothing to do in the evenings. But just 20 drive from Edinburgh, which is good. The only place to eat is their local "restaurant" where the menu doesn't not give you a great choice and they had just bottled beers in a bar. Or you can use ASDA just opposite the road for snacks.
Clean, but with old furniture. Were given a nice room on the Ground Floor.

Dear Guest,

Take you for taking the time to review the Holiday Inn Express – Dunfermline.

Dunfermline is a great central hub for gaining access to a wide range of places in Scotland including Edinburgh, Glasgow and the North with a bus stop literally outside the hotel. We are not located in the Centre of Dunfermline, but on the outskirts for ease of access from the M90 motorway to which we are a ¼ mile from.

We do have a limited Express Menu available in the evenings on a Monday-Thursday basis and since you have stayed with us in June 2012 we will launch a New Menu at the end of February 2013 with a much larger choice of food. If you stayed at the weekend there is the Fife Leisure Park 2 minutes drive/5 Minutes walk with a variety of restaurants or entertainment and Dunfermline town centre is 5 minutes by bus.

I have passed your comments on to our housekeeping team who were pleased to hear about the cleanliness of their room. We are also in the middle of upgrading various items in the hotel and the rooms and any feedback to allow us which areas may need attention are always helpful.

Again thank you for your comments and we hope you do decide to come back and visit us in the near future

So, having had to book the holiday inn express because of budget constraints (would normally stay at the Dakota), I was reminded of my previous experience here. Although the hotel looks nice from the outside and is across the road from Asda (which incidentally has a McDonalds, I'll come onto that later), it is very basic. Where do I start? When staying in a hotel room you would normally expect soft furnishings and a home like feel, however things were erm, square and a little bit chincy!! Plastic cups in the bathroom replace the normal glasses to hold your toothbrush! Water was tepid at best in the shower, and I've read reviews advising people were unable to connect to their "free" in room WiFi, very true or even none existent, and before the hotel comments, you can't use Ethernet with an iPad. Don't get me started on the size of the TV (if that's what it is), and the quality.

The next morning I woke to the sound of the chamber maid hoovering the 2nd floor corridor at 6.30AM yes AM (why?) and remembered the breakfast, or what they call breakfast. For me Sausages, egg and beans (other hot foods Not available unless you like mini croissants) is not really a breakfast, I'm sorry to moan on but more choice is definitely needed. Because of this I decided to walk across to McDonalds (although I don't normally indulge), which came in handy

I must say that the staff were pleasant enough, and I guess people say that customer service is everything! Not really!

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel following your recent stay with us.

I can see from you’re review this wasn’t your preferred choice of hotel .We are a holiday inn express and our rooms all meet and exceed the HIexpress brand standards.

Regarding the tepid water in the shower ,I have passed this onto our Maintenance team as this is the first time we have ever had this mentioned at our hotel and all our rooms and showers are inspected and tested regularly.

I’m sorry to hear you couldn’t connect to the complementary wifi and have passed this on also to our providers to check.

Regarding the housekeeping staff hoovering at 06:30 in the morning, our housekeeping staff do not start work until 07:00 at the earliest but have passed your comments on to them to find out how this could of happenned.

The Complementary breakfast with three hot options is once again a brand standard which a lot of guests enjoy, Im sorry this wasn’t to your liking, we are always looking at ways to improve our service and customer satisfaction and will feed your comments back.

Once again thank you for taking the time to review the hotel, It’s always good to hear both positive and negative comments which then helps us to understand where we can improve,

Regards
Dan Osborne

stay in Holiday Inns on a weekly basis or so it feels. On arrival warm welcome room clean and tidy in good repair. the hotel is well used so the bar area get busy and with a good atmosphere.
Only down point is old fashion TV with limited channels. Breakfast is normal scrambled egg, beans and sausage, ok wont win any awards but sets you up for the day. These hotels are set to compete with other budget travel hotels for working people away from home. this one does that very well. will stay here again
The in house reasurant although not used this visit was very popular so food can't be bad. a 5 min walk away is a large Asda for midnight nibbles and a friendly Harvester Inn

Room Tip: upstairs rooms always better away from bar noise

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel following your recent stay with us.
It’s really pleasing to see you had a pleasant stay,

As you rightly point out we also offer an evening meal service which always proves popular with our guests and there is a retail park across the road with a 24 hour Supermarket.

Far enough away to not hear any noise but near enough for convenience.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon.
Regards

Stayed overnight after visiting family.
Reception staff very pleasant and helpful
Room was clean, comfortable and very quiet.
Plenty parking space with good lighting & CCTV.
12pm checkout was appreciated as we had had a very late night due to it being New Year.
Breakfast had decent choice unless you were expecting a full cooked one which we weren't.
Would have preferred a king size bed rather than a double as every time my partner moved I felt like I was on a trampoline!
