We stopped in Dunfermline for the night on our way to a wedding in St Andrews and needed to find a place for dinner. Checking Tripadvisor first, we rang round a few places - none of which would pick up! So we took a chance and drove down into the town and found The Green Room. From the outside it wasn’t too obvious it was open - especially considering the Alhambra theatre it sits next to was closed. Fortunately it was and we’re certainly glad of that!
The interior is tastefully decorated, somewhere on the border between café and restaurant. The sole waitress was extremely welcoming and attentive and the menu varied and interesting.
There was a pre-theatre menu (5-6.30pm) of about 3 starters, mains (including sea bass and homemade burger) and desserts (crème brulée, warm chocolate brownie among them) priced at £11.95 for 2 courses/£14.95 for 3. Wine was from around £4.25 a glass.
Between the four of us we tried a pork chop (excellent), homemade burger (very nice - good chips), the sea bass (with lovely sweet potato sauce) and a mushroom risotto (the only slightly disappointing course). For puddings we had a chocolate chilli mousse (with just the right level of spicing), a warm chocolate brownie (with excellent marmalade ice-cream), a lovely melt-in-the-middle chocolate fondant and a vanilla crème brulée.
Considering there only appeared to be one chef, one waitress and the fact there were several other diners eating at the same time as us the speed of service was very impressive. The food was very good with decent portions (not enormous and not puny) and we left very satisfied.
Would thoroughly recommend!
