My husband and I recently stayed at the Davaar House Hotel for for 3 nights in October 2012.
I had been concerned about checking in early, as our flight landed at 7:00 a.m.
I had contacted the owners previously asking about early check-in, and I was assured that we could arrive anytime, and if the room was not yet ready, I was welcome to sit in the lounge, or leave the luggage in safe keeping.
When we arrived, We were heartily greeted by Jim and Doreen, told that the room was ready, and asked if we would like some breakfast! I certainly would never have expected that!
The room was quite large. There was a desk/vanity where my husband could work. Two chairs for sitting, next to a small table. The room included a tea kettle and various teas/coffee.
The shower had hot water.
The towels were large and fluffy, and included a bath towel, hand towel, and WASHCLOTH! (An American dream, as most European hotels do not have wash cloths.)
There was a body wash/shampoo combination soap in the shower. I tend to prefer separate shampoo from body wash, but I just walked into town and bought myself a bottle of shampoo.
The location is excellent. Far enough from the highway that there is no road noise.
Yet, close enough to easily walk into town, through the park during the day, or along the sidewalks into town at night. We had no problems walking to and from the hotel.
Breakfast was made upon order. There was juice, cereals, yogurt, and grapefruit available in the breakfast room. We ordered porridge, and there was also a menu to choose from for breakfast that included the full Scottish breakfast, but we could pick and choose exactly what we wanted.
This B&B was the quietest one that I have ever stayed at. We were on the second floor, facing the parking lot. We could see the Firth of Forth from the room.
During the day, when my husband went off to work, I was left to myself, and Jim set me up in the lounge, lighting the fire in the fireplace, and even going so far as to bring me a pot of tea.
I felt like I was being spoiled.
The house was cleaned thoroughly every day by a cleaning crew. The place really was immaculate.
I highly recommend this B&B for comfort, cleanliness and just great company as far as the hosts go. The time spent was truly memorable.
I'm very surprised that it does not have a 4 star rating.
