I'd not been to the Sanam in years, now we won't be away from the place. We were in the newly refurbished Sanam for a celebration meal last night and couldn't have had a better experience.
When you walk in you are struck by the extremely professional looking waiters and the comfortable, airy atmosphere and the sophisticated décor - and it just keeps getting better. With lovely napery, nice wine glasses and an interesting and extensive menu, the restaurant has the feel of a place that could be smack bang in the middle of a city rather than in this rather unassuming part of Falkirk.
We ordered poppadums to start and were impressed with how fresh and crisp they were and with the generous portions of mango chutney, spiced onions and chilli sauce alongside them. Our starters, shami kebab and chicken pakora were delicious, accompanied by fresh salad and a lovely yoghurt dressing they were perfect.
My husband ordered the mixed tandoori grill finished with cognac and I had the chicken sali boti - both had just the right balance of flavours. The mixed grill came on a sizzler with onions, mushrooms and green peppers and was generously heaped with chicken, lamb and shish kebab. My curry, a mild creamy dish, wasn't too thick or heavy but light and subtly flavoured - a real credit to a talented chef. The accompaniments of pilau rice and a keema nan were hot, fragrant and tasty.
Our dessert of gulab jamun was the perfect end to our meal especially when the waiter suggested a toffee sauce that he though went well with gluab jamun - he was right. And so the dessert, like every aspect of the meal, was amongst the best we have tasted in any Indian restaurant.
On the way out we booked again for a family birthday.
This restaurant leaves you very excited about the prospect of eating your way through an extensive and exciting menu, in comfortable surroundings, served by fantastic staff.
