My partner and I spent Hogmanay at the Village Apartments. These are exclusive gay male apartments in an excellent location, two minutes from Broughton Street and no more than 15 minutes from Princes Street.
You check in at the gay sauna which is next door, but there is a separate door with access to the apartments for the rest of the stay. We stayed in the Junior Suite which has a large bedroom with comfortable chairs, tv, dvd player and cd player. There is a small fridge in the main room in which the continental breakfast items are left. There is a separate loo, shower cubicle and a wash basin within the hall way between the front door and the main room. Off the hallway is a small kitchen with sink, cutlery, crockery and microwave.
At the bottom of the road there is a fantastic cafe (Blue Moon) in which we had a really nice meal, but there are some excellent takeaways 5-10 minutes away within the cinema complex. There are a lot of gay bars and clubs in the local vicinity.
Although it was a cold Hogmanay, the apartments were very cosy. We will definitely go again. Residents are able to access the sauna next door at a reduced rate.
