“Nice place, friendly hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

It was our first visit to Edinburgh so we needed help with choosing what places to visit etc.
The hosts were very friendly and bent over backwards to help. Their extensive local knowledge was very useful.
We really enjoyed our 2 day stay at the Classic House. Nice room and facilities and the breakfast was lovely.
Would definitely go back again.

The location is a bit out of the center but price is great compared to any closer to down town. Staff was great and very helpful. The breakfast and the dining hall were great <3 Everythig worked and rooms were nice :) Would defintely recommend to my friends. There weren't any private parking but we got a permit for keeping our car on the street next to the b&b.

I recently stayed at the Classic Guest House in Edinburgh with my daughter and my two young grandsons. The first floor family room was very well appointed and comfortable and provided everything we could possible need. Our hosts and their staff were very welcoming and helpful. The breakfast provided was to a very high standard in a very attractive conservatory overlooking a very pretty little garden. An excellent start to a very busy touristy day in Edinburgh at the beginning of the Festival. I would very definitely recommend the Classic to other travellers and we all hope to be able to visit again in due course.

We like to visit the Edinburgh Festival each August, but the B&B we used previously closed, so this was the first time at the Classic House. Everything was organised well in advance (accommodation is at a premium during the Festival). We arrived by train at Waverley station and the bus stop for routes 42 and 67 is right outside, so we were soon in Mayfield Rd, and spotted the guest house just a short distance from the bus stop. Fiona greeted us warmly and explained how things worked. Unfortunately our room was on the top floor, accessed by that narrow winding staircase, and quite small (especially the bathroom, where the hot water took a long time to arrive)), so next time we'll try to book earlier and get a first floor room. The room was clean and made up nicely every day (we were there five nights). Breakfast was excellent, though when the hotel is full you might have to wait a bit for a seat in the conservatory to become available. We had one-week bus tickets for £17 and certainly got our money's worth travelling to and fro, and around the festival venues, or sightseeing. The Classic House was always nice to come back to, and we slept well in the comfortable bed. When we checked out we were presented with a small gift, which was a nice touch.

Room Tip: Rooms 1-4 best; avoid 5-8

We recently stayed in a family room at the Classic Guest House. Throughout our stay the hosts were very welcoming and offered us advice and directions to assist us with our visit. I was most impressed with the standard of the Bedroom/Bathroom, lovely Fresh White towels, basket of toiletries, tea/coffee, shortbread, Free WIFI. Breakfast was served in the conservatory which overlooked the owners pretty garden. There was plenty to choose from for breakfast, croissants, fresh fruit, muffins, juice, cereal and cooked breakfast. It took us about 20 minutes to walk into town , taxi cost about £8. We went to the National Museum and if you have time then its a must. I would certainly recommend the Classic Guest House and hope to stay again soon. Thankyou for your hospitality.

I would say that the over all property is very good. This was the only place in Europe (during our six week stay) that I questioned that the duvet cover had been cleaned. I could tell that the sheets were clean, but the duvet cover looked like it had been previously used and slept on. That being said, again, I am not sure. Besides that, the property is nice. Our room was spacious and the bathroom was nice as well. Our room also had a desk and chair. The property does not have private parking and we did park our cars on the street. Classic Guest House is very close to a nearby bus stop. We used this as our transportation to and from the city of Edinburgh. The breakfast was excellent. My recommendation is to bring in a travel bag instead of a suitcase because the property does not have a lift.

We had 2 nights here at the end of touring Scotland.

We had the ground floor room that features in some of the photos on the guest's houses web site. It is large, with a coffee table, two arm chairs, a 6 foot bed, a writing desk and chair, a table for coffee making, wardrobe, and still lots of spare floor space. The ensuite was modern and had a bath with a shower attachment.

Breakfast was good.

There is on-street parking right outside the hotel - parking in central Edinburgh is difficult so we left the car there. The hotel is a very brisk 20 min to the centre of town or a 40 min amble. However, there are frequent buses into town which we used. A taxi to the centre is about £8.

Owners and their assistant were alll friendly and helpful. They advised on restaurants, buses, and gave us breakfast early on our departure date as we had an early flight.

Its not the cheapest B&B but by Edinburgh standards it is very reasonable.
