“Good food in pleasant surroundings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

We called in for a meal before heading on to a show and even though it is at the peak of the Edinburgh Festival we managed to get a table. We enjoyed cocktails before ordering a steak which was well cooked and quite tasty. Service was quick but not rushed and we had deserts and coffee before setting off for the show. Although this restaurant is part of chain it had a good standard and served up good food at reasonable prices.

I hope that you have enjoyed the festival and have returned home safely. Thank you for your review. It is appreciated. We are a family owned and operated business within Edinburgh and have several other restaurants around the city including our famous La Favorita, with wood fired pizzas.

I hope you will come back and visit the next time you are visiting Edinburgh.

Sincerely,

Tony Crolla

“'Vittoria' George IV Bridge Edinburgh”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

We decided to treat my daughter and granddaughters to a 'decent' lunch in between their visiting shows in the Fringe and having been to Vittoria successfully last year with our other grandchildren we booked for lunch yesterday. The restaurent was very busy but the waiting staff were coping well and in a very pleasant and helpful fashion. The food was excellent and the portions very generous and good value for money. It was easy to get up 'the Bridges' from Hanover Street by bus which although a short walk to the restaurent the streets were very crowded for our small grandchildren. I would heartily recommend this restaurent and we would certainly go back there again.

“Dreadful service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

We have eaten here many times over the years and while the food has been good, the service has been mixed. We recently had a terrible experience with appallingly slow service, to the point where we walked out after 20 minutes. The restaurant was barely half full and we still hadn't received even a drink. What makes it more galling is that I subsequently wrote (old fashioned letter) to the restaurant manager to ask them to explain what had gone so badly wrong and give them a chance to explain. That was a few months ago and I haven't had even the courtesy of an acknowledgement, far less a full reply. This tells me they are complacent and really don't care. They're in a busy part of Edinburgh and probably figure they will always have a high level of passing trade. Well, not mine's any more at least.

“Great food, but service was a little confused.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013 via mobile

Firstly I should point out that we ate here during Edinburgh's busiest month, so this review is probably not representative of Vittoria the rest of the year.

The service was friendly and the food was outstanding, probably the best Italian in the city along with its sister restaurant and La Favorita. The downsides were that the waitress knocked a glass of beer over and one of our party of four had to wait twenty minutes for his main after the other three had been served. In fairness, the bill was discounted accordingly and the staff were very apologetic so the situation was handled very well.

We'll definitely be back, although perhaps when the city is a little less busy.

The team and I extend our sincerest apologies for the problems that occured on your last visit. I can assure you the experience that you had is most likely a result of rushed festival fever. I am pleased to hear that the team handled the mistakes with grace.

Thank you for your patience and I do hope that you will come and visit us again to experience Vittoria at it's finest.

Thank you for your patience.

Sincerely,

Tony Crolla

“What's happened to the portion sizes?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

Being local and regulars we're used to having our favourites at Vittoria on the Bridge. But today for lunch, what a disappointment! The service from the staff was excellent and they were so busy with the Festival rush, but the food was a let down. I had calamari for starter, which used to be a good plate sized portion and the calamari itself would be all shapes and sizes, as if hand cut. Today, it was a wee bowl and they were extremely thin strips as if cheap frozen product. Then a Vittoria original of liver and bacon. Again, we both used to struggle to finish this meal. Not today, with three very thinly sliced pieces and altogether with three half scoops of mash potato, it was only luke warm. Looks like standards have dropped, unless they were just too busy trying to get as much trade from the Festival goers.

Thank you for your review. I can assure you that our standards have not dropped and I will be inquiring into the portion sizes with our head chef. I appreciate your comments as we do listen to all our customers and do our best to correct where we have gone wrong.

I sincerely hope that you will visit us again.

Regards,
Tony Crolla
