“Lovely Food - the Drinks, However....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

Went to Dubh Prais for lunch with a group from work as one of our colleagues was leaving. The food was absolutely faultless - we chose from the Festive Menu, which had something to suit everyone.
Felt, thought, that our drinks weren't exactly being controlled by us - apparently the question was asked as we arrived whether there was a limit on the drinks and the reply was interpreted as "Keep it coming, whether we need it or not." Drinks were being poured into glasses without checking whether they were wanted and there was a point where a bottle was taken away and replenished although there was still some wine in it.
Still and sparkling bottled water was poured before we had the chance to ask for jugs of tap water, which added £34 (+ 10% service charge) to the bill which was unnecessary.
It was puzzling that it was ascertained at the start of the lunch who was in charge of the booking, but there was no consultation with her on any of the arrangements in relation to drinks.
Didn't spoil the occasion but not what we would have expected as the service was great apart from that.

“An amazing night”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

We were recommended this restaurant from a friend and all I can say is amazing! This is a small initimate restaurant where you could spend all night there, as we did. You are not rushed and the staff are very friendly. The menu is limited but there is a reason for this as the food is of a high quality and amazing. The menu doesn't change as it clearly works for this restaurant but there is a specials menu which varies from the main menu.
This is not one of your cheaper restaurants in Edinburgh but it is well worth every penny.

“Super cute restaurant serving brilliant food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

We made a reservation to eat here on Saturday night off the back of Time out and Tripadvisor reviews, and were not disappointed.

The restaurant is understated, with a tiny sign and stairway down to a basement restaurant which is cosy and intimate. Definitely one for small groups and couples.

We wanted traditional grub and I believe that's what we got (although lack of comparison to anything else!) Haggis and west coast broth starters were excellent, in particular the broth which was stunning. We all went for the dish of the day - collops of beef in a red wine sauce which was simply melt in the mouth amazing. Desserts were less exciting and I'd probably pick a deep fried mars bar over them, but my cheese and biscuits were very tasty.

The service was impeccable - even though we were given a two hour slot due to it being a busy saturday evening, we never felt rushed at all and the staff were friendly and entertaining without being intrusive.

A meal for four comprised of three courses and two bottles of house red came to just over £200. Great value for money for what was a truly enjoyable dinner.

Book ahead - if you're ever in Edinburgh for one night you must eat here!

“Will not disappoint”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

We tried this restaurant based on other people's reviews and I can only say thank you to them. This restaurant will not disappoint. We ate in Martin Wishart the other day and this is a close second in terms of food. The only difference is that this place is not as POSH. However the food is outstanding. The only drawback is that the restaurant is in a basement (very clean though) and small. We went there based on others reviews and were told if we can be out in 1 1/4 hours he can seat us. The placed was packed. Only seat around 24 people. Service was also very fast. EXCELLENT!

“Excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012 via mobile

Small restaurant with a good atmosphere and excellent food. West Coast Broth and Venison were the star courses for us, the broth having a wonderful tasting sauce and the venison so tender and fantastic taste. All reasonably priced. Will definitely go back next time we're n Edinburgh.
