We were lucky to find accomodation during the festival and were recommended this place by another B and B. It's a great house in a great location. You are welcomed into the home as part of the family and if you're the type of guest who likes to keep themself to themself, then it's probably not for you. It wasn't quite what we expected but we had a great stay.
The family are lovely, the kids extremely well-behaved and excellent company and Felicitas is a wonderful baker. She made sure that there was plenty to eat for we vegetarians at breakfast. The house is wonderful and we had a four poster room with a fantastic old bathroom with original fittings, a nice change from chain hotel uniformity.
If you're loooking for a welcoming place that a little bit out of the ordinary then it's worth a look. Some great shops nearby too!

We came to Edinburgh for a party and needed to stay centrally. The Stevenson House is literally the most central B&B in Edinburgh and the Macfies such gracious hosts that we will surely be back soon.
Our room was spacious and clean and we felt that we really experienced what it is like to live with a family in a Georgian house in the Edinburgh New Town.
The breakfast was punctual and there was lots to choose from. The bread is home-baked and the jams home-made too. It was such a nice change from the mass-produced stuff you normally get.
We were given lots of tips of where to go and what to do one of the Macfie children even helped us find the way to one of the restaurants we wanted to go to.
This is a great place if you want to stay centrally and have a welcoming base. Couldn't fault it and will be back !

When we were in Edinburgh for holidays we stayed at Stevenson House.
It’s a historic house in the city nevertheless its very quiet. The bedrooms and the bathrooms are large and very clean. We really loved the breakfast, especially the marmelade and self- made bred – it’s great!
The travelling tips of the family are as good as everything else. The Macfie’s gave us nice ideas what we could visit in town or surroundings. Each member of the familiy – except the baby-twins ;-) – can speak German fluently so we had no problems to understand everything with our poor Englisch skills.
If you come to Edinburgh stay at the Stevenson house in the wunderful family atmosphere. Next time we visit Edinburg, we definitly stay there again!

Staying at the Robert Louis Stevenson House for a week really did make
me feel like a king. The rooms are so large with high ceilings. My wife and I had a lovely room with an en suite bath. The bathroom was larger than our main room in London. I began each day with a relaxing bath, then a nice breakfast including home-made breads, jams, eggs, juices and teas and conversation with the hosts. Then I would go out for a stroll around town guided by some helpful advice from our hosts who seem to know everything about Edinburgh and are happy to share their knowledge. Then I would have afternoon tea with home-made cakes.
It was here that I tried a new kind of tea, which is my new favorite.
The shelves of the bedroom are lined with books to read, including several by Robert Louis Stevenson himself. I enjoyed my experiences of staying there so much that I have now relocated to Edinburgh to an apartment just a short walk away from the house.

If you want to stay central in the city and see how a Scottish family lives, stay at the Stevenson House. I've stayed there many times and I'll book my next overnight the same location. The house has it's own history and to be part of if for couple nights at the time is a wonderful experience. I've stayed in one of the guest rooms located on the top floor with a great view. The room has it's own basin and the bathroom is around the corner. The rooms have been very tidy and clean and the breakfast served very conveniently at any time it suits the guests. Mrs. Macfie self made marmalade's and jams are delicious and so is the self baked fresh bread. There is an option of continental or Scottish breakfast, coffee or tea as the guest likes. Mr and Mrs Macfie's knowledge of the historic sites of Edinburgh is amazing and I've always asked for some tips where to go and what to see and I've never been disappointed. If you're looking to stay somewhere out of ordinary, stay at the Stevenson House B&B!
