“We had pre-booked but left once we saw our room”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012

Well where to start? The place was old and tired. Our double bed was shoved against the wall and there was little room to move about. No where to unpack unless you used the bed and no where to stow your case once you had.
The whole place was tired and dated, the decor was depressing, and the standard of fixtures and fittings was awful.
Dust blew off the top of the 'en-suite' when the window and door were open at the same time.
Never booked in and left before but this had to be the first time, premium price but not appropriate.
We had stayed in a Guest House in Spean Bridge the previous night which knocked the spots off this place and then some and it cost £20 a night less so it really showed up how bad this place is.
Do yourself a favour and find somewhere else..

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

I sadly made the mistake of booking this place instead of the b and b of the same name . This one smelt awful and was grubby and scruffy , on opening the wardrobe dust fell off , cheap sheets , and tiny bedrooms , the owner tried to charge us £100 a night , so poor I could not stay there .

having seen a photograph of the guest house, on line, we thought the house looked very attractive. How wrong we were!!! We rang the bell on arrival and it was answered by a young Chinese girl from the house next door. we were given forms to fill in stating what we wanted for breakfast and what time we would arrive for breakfast. Beds clean, en-suite was a tiny cupboard, curtains old, faded and hanging off the rail. Window frames, windows and skirting boards disgustingly dirty. Had to eat next door which was little cleaner and the Chinese lady who served us got all the breakfast orders wrong and produced our order slips to prove we were wrong (we weren't) . The view from the dining room window of the dustbin and a very mouldy old baby buggy was not attractive. the dining room in Cameron's seemed to be gradually filling up with mattresses as our stay progressed. Overall we were very disappointed with our stay. No hospitality at all!!!!

Very poor. No reception when I arrived. Couldn't fill kettle with water - could only plug it into socket with the kettle standing on the floor. Lady serving breakfast could hardly speak English - poor reception - far away from the normal Scottish "good morning" greeting (she is from China I think). Apparent that all effort went into keeping costs low - little was done to maintain house and rooms - rather than spend a little on "service". So, definately not service-minded; small things could be done to offer better service e.g soap/ shampoo in shower room, biscuits to coffee/ tea in room, have a bottle of water in room, have matching cup and saucer(!). Often couldn't access WiFi, couldn't watch BBC (no reception).
I am not a rascist - but the Chinese, on this occasion, let Scotland down - the Scottish warmth and friendliness is just not there.
Breakfast is good - but, if you stay at the Cameron Guest House, be prepared - sun or rain - to go next door to the Hermitage Guest House for breakfast. The Hermitage is owned by the same family.
Very efficient by the B&B owners to keep costs down - to the detriment of the guests. What is happening to "guid auld Scotland"?

Room was very tiny with bed against wall. Bed light not working. No where to sit. Room was not serviced for our two night stay. Caretaker did not know about local attractions, or where to eat. The worst place we stayed at in our two month visit to the UK. Would not recommend. Good location and street parking.

Our stay at Camerons Guest House for two nights during our recent trip to Scotland was very nice. There was on street parking available, and the bus stop to get downtown was located 50 feet away. The house faces a beautiful park area, and there were several restaurants within walking distance. Our hostess had a dog and a bird within the home who were quite sweet. We were also able to check in early in the day as our flight landed at 10 a.m....it was nice not having to lug our luggage and rental car around until typical checkin time of 4-6. We didn't use our rental car the entire time we were in Edinburgh - just wasn't needed. (we used it during the rest of our trip though).

  • Liked — Wonderful breakfast foods.
  • Disliked — Quality of room accomodations

Owner was not there upon arrival. Instruction on front door to find nearest phone and call for instructions to access B&B.
No one was inside, felt as though we were the only one staying there. Discover later during breakfast more than half the rooms were booked.
Our room was a family room for three. Our first impression after entering the room was that the room smell musty, old decor, uncomfortable beds, poor lighting, no place to unpack luggage and store away, old furniture, no place for toiletries, low on toilet paper, no tissues, only one bath towel per person, but provided fresh towels each day, light above sink did not work, ugly wall paper....need I say more?
Bathroom has good water pressure, but temperature is not hot enough. Bring your own soap. No place to put soap and shampoo in shower stall. Floor slant and squeaky. This place needs work.
Weak internet connection.
Met owner during breakfast. She apologized for not being there when we arrived. Good breakfast with plenty to eat. Owner also burned us a cd music we enjoyed listening to. Thanks for your kindness.
Street parking is difficult, but only a couple miles from Edinburgh Castle.
